Position Purpose:

The Administrative Registered Nurse Supervisor is an advanced professional supervisory nursing position that oversees clinical, operational, and administrative nursing services in conjunction with the RNS and CHCA. This position places a heavy emphasis on orienting and onboarding new nursing staff and inmate workers, and on training subordinate staff and inmate workers on an ongoing basis. The position monitors and evaluates performance and training needs for staff and inmate workers to support safe, timely, and consistent health care delivery. It also coordinates staffing and workflow and may assume administrative responsibilities of the Corrections Health Care Administrator (CHCA) when the CHCA is unavailable.

Education & Training Responsibilities (50% of Role)
Assesses, coordinates, and monitors training and competency needs for nursing staff and inmate workers, including RNs, LPNs, Nurse Aides, janitors, orderlies, and porters.
Assigns required training, conducts annual competencies, maintains training records, and oversees nursing and inmate education programs.
Develops and provides orientation, in-service education, and training based on staff, departmental, and policy needs.
Educates staff on DOC policies, new equipment, practices, procedures, and standards of care, and assists with implementation.
Instructs staff on the proper care, control, and custody of inmate patients and workers.
Serves as a clinical resource and provides guidance to nursing staff and departments including Palliative Care, Personal Care, Outpatient, Dispensary, and General Population areas.
Provides education and discharge guidance to families of medically complex offenders.
Requires flex schedule when second and third shift on job training is needed for new staff.

Administrative Nursing Operations (30% of Role)
Coordinates daily administrative nursing operations, workflow, staffing records, schedules, payroll support, leave coverage, and employee files.
Reviews medical record documentation, controlled substance records, and equipment documentation for accuracy and compliance with DOC policy and best practices.
Supports development, implementation, and interpretation of policies, procedures, regulations, and contractual agreements.
Participates in quality assurance, audits, infection control, compliance activities, and grievance processing.
Reviews employee grievances and complaints, conducts fact-finding, assists with resolutions, and administers disciplinary action in accordance with DOC policy and contractual agreements.
Completes employee performance evaluations, provides supervisory guidance, and assists with staff interviews and hiring recommendations.
Assists the CHCA with offender requests, legal correspondence, and departmental meetings as needed.

Nursing Operations & Staff Support (10% of Role)
Assists the Registered Nurse Supervisor (RNS) with supervision of nursing and assigned health care staff.
Monitors nursing care, treatment services, chronic care, sick-call processes, and continuity of care for infirmary and ambulatory patients.
Coordinates staffing coverage, assigns duties, monitors staff performance, schedules breaks, authorizes overtime as needed, and conducts staff meetings.
Monitors completion of provider-ordered medications, treatments, immunizations, testing, screenings, and other clinical services.
Ensures compliance with infection control standards, dispensary operations, and daily clinical procedures.
Conducts rounds, reviews patient concerns, and supports provider examinations, specialty clinics, and special medical needs.

Communication & Clinical Support (10% of Role)
Communicates and collaborates with the CHCA, custody staff, providers, hospitals, vendors, social workers, outside agencies, inmates, and families as appropriate.
Coordinates information related to emergencies, transfers, releases, discharge planning, specialty care, court-ordered medical matters, and other complex cases.
Identifies offender needs, concerns, and administrative issues and assists with resolution.
Maintains safe and orderly clinical areas by monitoring supplies, equipment, sanitation, cleaning, and de-contamination procedures.
Provides guidance to assigned inmate janitors and orderlies.
Performs related duties as assigned, including emergency response, medical records support, and other departmental needs.

14. Work overtime in compliance with provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement
15. Travel as required

The Administrative Registered Nurse Supervisor works with considerable independence within the scope of the RN license, DOC policy, facility procedures, and provider direction. During peak workload periods and in case of absence of personnel, makes day-to-day decisions about staff assignments, workflow, coverage needs, documentation follow-up, and nursing priorities. Complex clinical, staffing, disciplinary, legal, or administrative issues are referred to the CHCA or appropriate leadership.

Experience:
