Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This position participates in the design and subsequent construction and finishing of a variety of custom furniture, cabinets, display cases, product shelving, and related items for use in stores, or in various offices throughout the agency.

This position is considered essential and will be required to work or continue to work when an agency emergency has been declared.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

DESIGN AND PLANNING:
•Participates in the review of conceptual drawings and helps interpret the needs of the individual based upon the interpretation of the conceptual drawing.

•Participates in feedback sessions with project stakeholders as to the accuracy of interpretations of conceptual drawings.

•Asks probing questions from stakeholders in order to understand expectations and outcomes.

•Revises rough sketches in order to flush out more details so the scope of each project and its subsequent parts can be better determined.

•Participates in discussing the strategic and tactical issues relating to the pros and cons of production methodology, materials, and fit and finish; recommends alternatives and assists in problem solving relating to engineering the construction process and producing deliverables that meet or exceed expectations.

•Provides project input into material choices that best apply to the project’s needs relating to fit and finish, durability, weight, and application.

•Provides input into the sequencing of construction events in order to maximize craftsmanship efforts, materials, and time frames.

•Provides input into estimates for time and materials needed for the completion of each assigned project.

•May utilize basic computer drafting programs in order to produce mechanical drawings for some projects, depending upon workload and supervisory input.

CONSTRUCTION:
•Performs general maintenance duties within a wood shop work environment and may utilize the functionality of multiple trades in the completion of associated projects, including carpentry, electrical, painting, drywall, flooring, plumbing, and related work.

•Uses a variety of woodworking power and hand tools in order to bring projects from the design phase into reality.

•Safely and accurately uses table saws, jig saws, crosscut saws, routers, shapers, joiners, sanders, drill presses and other related hardware.

•Safely and accurately uses a variety of pneumatic tools such as sprayers, lifters, impact tools, blowers, etc.

•Safely and accurately uses a variety of hand tools common to the various construction trades.

•Accurately measures materials and reads various measuring tools such as tape measures, levels, squares, etc.

•Accurately lays out projects in order to maximize materials usage and reduce waste.

•Builds prototypes for proposed projects prior to engaging in full-scale production of assigned projects.

•Fits and joins a variety of materials accurately and with aesthetic appeal; finishes projects to expected color, texture, and overall look, feel, and function based upon input from all stakeholders.

•Takes care to utilized appropriate skill and craftsmanship in producing top quality custom results.

•Provides feedback to other craftsman regarding fit, finish, construction methods, or other related work.

•Completes and submits reports documenting work performed, time expended, and materials used for completed projects to the supervisor.

SHOP MAINTENANCE AND SAFETY:
•Maintains equipment and tools so that they operate safely and as designed by the manufacturer.

•Sweeps floors and removes waste and scrap materials; properly and safely disposes of shop refuse.

•Wears protective clothing, gloves, eye protection as appropriate in order to reduce and mitigate potential injuries.

•Participates in organizing materials so that they are logically searchable, easy to find, and easily accessible.

MISCELLANEOUS DUTIES:
•Participates in house cleaning duties for the shop and common areas.

•Assists in regional maintenance activities, as needed.

•Responds to emergency situations as the result of inclement weather, or ad hoc operational issues affecting stores, warehouses, or regional facilities. Support functions may include boarding doors, windows, roofs, etc., with the objective being to provide security until permanent repairs are completed.

•Performs related duties as required.
