Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Within the UC Board of Review (UCBR) Central Office, this employee processes both first-level and second-level UC appeals. These appeals are filed from determinations by UC service centers or from decisions by UC referees.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

The Central Office adjudicates second-level appeals and inputs initial tracking entries for first-level appeals. Workload is approximately 16,000 second-level and 85,000 first-level appeals annually, and processing is measured against federal timeliness standards. Appeals are processed so that cases with earliest deadlines receive priority.

This employee has particular responsibility to maintain required files, process required paper work, input required PC data for cases, and handle correspondence and mail.
Prepares and types UC46A Further Appeal document, copies documents, updates mainframe, and mails appeals to appropriate parties.

Types and prepares an appearance sheet for each completed case file.
Maintains files for pending and completed cases, including preparation of file folders and labels, matching Referee decisions and records with board cases, insertion of hearing transcripts and other documents, typing of cover and transmittal sheets and accurate filing and purging of case files.

Prepares hearing recordings and types appearance and batch sheets for shipment to outside vendors that transcribe these recordings.
Identifies late appeals and appeals remanded to Referees for further hearings and carries out special processing required for these cases.

Prepares appeals being sent to board members and later reviews and processes these same appeals after receipt from board members. Processes and types reconsiderations to board decisions.

Prepares board decisions related to appeals for release and mails these to interested parties. These duties include photocopying, typing and/or word processing, and accurate review and assembling of documents and data.

Inputs appropriate data to automated computer appeals tracking system.
Processes all incoming and outgoing correspondence timely, including use of date stamping equipment. Determines appropriate referrals for incoming correspondence, and retrieves cases and files for correspondence responses.

Courteously handles telephone calls and provides appropriate referrals when necessary.
Performs other related clerical duties as required.
