Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. The employee in this position is responsible for routine manual labor in the custodial care of the building, equipment, and furniture. The employee performs a variety of tasks in connection with cleaning functions. Assignments will be made to various areas of the facility as directed. Work is performed under general direction of the Custodial Worker Supervisor. Assignments are subject to inspection during progress or upon completion for attainment of established standards of cleanliness. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Provides basic housekeeping duties by cleaning and wiping surfaces such as but not necessarily limited to, wash bowls, commodes, urinals, sinks, counters, tables, chairs, water coolers, exteriors of lockers, and furnishings. Remove trash and/or refuse and place in appropriate receptacles. Complete general cleaning to include, sweeping and mopping of floors, cleaning walls, and cleaning ceilings, in order to maintain a healthy, clean, safe, and therapeutically pleasing environment for patient, staff and/or visitors. Maintains cleanliness of the facility by using cleaning techniques outlined in the Housekeeping Procedure Manual to insure a clean and sanitary environment. Areas maintained include, but are not limited to: bedrooms, bathrooms, shower rooms, entrance, hallways, visiting rooms, dining rooms, offices, program areas, breakroom, clinics, stairwells. Shovels snow, sweeps and cleans walks, assists in keeping immediate outside premises and building entrances in a safe and orderly condition. Operates mechanical housekeeping equipment by following Operator's Instruction Manual, Housekeeping Procedure Manual, and by using proper safety techniques in order to ensure efficiency and safety in cleaning. Chooses the most effective cleaning tool and product by following guidelines outlined in the Housekeeping Procedure Manual in order to insure effective infection control, efficiency and safety in cleaning. Maintains safe conditions by reporting hazardous conditions to prevent accidents and by following established work procedures and safe work practices. Develops housekeeping skills by participating in in-service training sessions and requesting training to meet individual needs in order to improve present skills and develop new skills to meet the needs of the Ebensburg Center. Moves furniture and equipment as directed by following established procedures and following safety precautions to maintain the facility according to policy and procedures. Maintains open communications by talking with co-workers, supervisors, and building staff in order to address concerns. Receives and distributes clean bed and bath linen. Must have the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and constructive working relationships with all Ebensburg Center staff and individuals. Performs other job-related duties as assigned, as required per building standards and institutional goals of maintaining a safe, clean comfortable environment for individuals and staff. |
