Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

The Community Relations Coordinator in District 6 assists the Deputy Communications Director with the internal and external communications program across PennDOT's five-county Philadelphia region. The CRC plays a key role in communicating transportation projects, statewide initiatives and department safety goals to staff, media, legislators, stakeholders and the motoring public.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Serve as one of the primary media spokespersons for PennDOT's five-county Philadelphia region.

Produce informational materials for the media, legislators and the general public about PennDOT's complex transportation program and its impacts to traffic across southeast Pennsylvania. This requires researching and gathering data, issuing press releases and disseminating information to the proper publics on several different
platforms.

Serve as an "early warning" system to alert the Deputy Communications Director, District Executive and Central Press Office to potential problems.

Manage the District's internal communications program which includes producing in-house materials on all transportation matters.

Utilize social media outlets to communicate project info and PennDOT achievements.

Keep District personnel updated on media and transportation issues.

Plan, organize and promote special events involving PennDOT and local elected officials (ribbon cuttings, ground breakings, award programs, public meetings).

Attend public meetings for PennDOT projects as required.

Write briefings on transportation projects and issues in the Philadelphia region for executive staff.

Keep local legislators and municipalities informed of PennDOT activities in their respective areas.

Handle inquiries from the media, customers and elected officials about PennDOT related matters.

Assist with the development of project websites.

Produce content for the District 6 website.

Manage Customer Care Center correspondence for the Press Office.

Draft responses to customer inquiries on transportation matters in the region.

Produces project information for print and public dissemination.

Work with engineering consultant firms and review and edit materials produced for PennDOT pertaining to transportation projects in the region.

Manage computer information/programs/equipment.

Other duties as assigned by the Deputy Communications Director.

-Immediately stop any unsafe actions.
-Incorporate safety into all discussions, deliberations, and decisions.
-Continuously communicate the safety direction.
-Inspire employees to be a MODEL for safety.
-Encourage and support safety initiatives and programs by participating and involving staff.
-Recognize safety daily.
-Acknowledge EXTRAORDINARY achievements.
-Learn and improve through After-Action Reviews (AAR’s)
-Enforce accountability.

Succession Planning:

Take an active role in succession planning by completing a Career Development Plan in collaboration with the supervisor. In conjunction with the supervisor, participate in knowledge management/transfer by identifying key aspects of the job and sharing explicit and tacit program/technical knowledge with other employees.

Department Green Plan Policy:
As part of PennDOT’s MS4 obligations including NPDES Permit compliance and stockpile good housekeeping, all Construction Inspection Employee, Manager & Supervisor and Maintenance Employee, Manager & Supervisor PD’s must include the following statement:
Commit to following the Departments Green Plan Policy (Pub 712) and the associated principals. Failure to comply with Department Green Plan Policy shall be documented in employee’s performance review.

CRC answers public, safety and media inquiries pertaining to transportation subjects. Depending on the nature of the question, answers are developed in coordination with supervisor.

Develops, writes and disseminates news releases and public information materials upon final approval from supervisor Responsible for developing and producing public events and publications. (CRC will review event and publications
with supervisor).

Decides on producing special informational materials for specific transportation projects
