Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Employee performs a variety of welding duties involving welding, brazing, soldering, and metal-cutting jobs on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Performs cutting and welding operations, using arc, acetylene, or mig welding equipment, on all Department machinery and equipment. This could include, but not be limited to, truck and automobile bodies, engine parts, trailer parts, etc. Makes repairs to winter services equipment fleet, including plow frames, plow blades, and spreaders. Fabricates replacement parts or new parts for modification of equipment. Safely operates power hand tools and air tools (band saw, drills, drill press, hydraulic press, electric pipe threader, air compressor, air hammer, air wrenches) in conjunction with welding and fabrication duties. Operates motorized equipment (forklift, pick-up truck, bucket truck, etc.) in conjunction with fabrication and welding duties. Performs a limited amount of mechanical work, including mounting and removing plow frames, spreaders, and chemical tanks on trucks, as well as disassembling and reassembling pieces of equipment. Welding and cutting of specialized material such as stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and steel. Communicates with supervisor and Purchasing Agent concerning purchasing of material. Properly completes work in accordance with issued work order from supervisor. Keeps abreast of newest techniques and equipment. Maintains a safe working area and maintains safe work practices. May be required to take welding test to become certified to weld bridge/structural components. Implements the environmental protection requirements of maintenance work activities performed by the employee. Also fulfills the environmental management requirements designated for this title in environmental training programs. Recognizing that everyone is involved in the District’s and County’s actions to demonstrate sound environmental practices, employee fulfills the Maintenance Unit Business Plan objectives related to the Strategic Environmental Management Program(SEMP). Also, supports the efforts of managers, supervisors, and other employees to meet these objectives. Performs other related duties as assigned. Must possess a Class C driver’s license or the ability to operate Class C vehicles. Safety 1. Assess your environment and be responsible for your safety, the safety of co-workers, and the public. 2. Attend required safety training and adhere to the requirements of all safety manuals, policies, and laws. 3. Immediately report to your supervisor any incident, unsafe practice, or near miss. 4. When in an enclosed environment (office buildings, confined spaces, flagger stations, equipment pinch points, etc.), know your evacuation process and escape route, your communication protocols, and appropriately react in the event of an incident. 5. Evaluate the contractor’s operations: Immediately stop any unsafe actions. Engage in an ongoing safety dialogue with the contractor’s leadership. 6. Promote a CULTURE that emphasizes SAFETY as a core value: Immediately stop any unsafe actions. Incorporate safety into all discussions, deliberations, and decisions. Continuously communicate the safety direction. Inspire employees to be a MODEL for safety. Encourage and support safety initiatives and programs by participating and involving your staff. Recognize safety daily. Acknowledge EXTRAORDINARY achievements. Learn and improve through After Action Reviews(AARs). Enforce accountability. Succession Planning: Take an active role in succession planning by completing a Career Development Plan in collaboration with the supervisor. In conjunction with the supervisor, participate in knowledge management/transfer by identifying key aspects of the job and sharing explicit and tacit program/technical knowledge with other employees. Department Green Plan Policy: Commit to following the Department’s Green Plan Policy (Pub 712) and the associated principles. Failure to comply with Department Green Plan Policy shall be documented in employee’s performance review. Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Unless directed otherwise by your supervisor or manager, comply with stated work hours for the 7.5/8.0 hour day. |
