The Semi-Skilled Laborer works in a variety of trades using tools and assisting staff in the maintenance and repair of public buildings and equipment at Nolde Forest Environmental Education Center, under the supervision of the Center Manager. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. EXAMPLES OF WORK: Cleans and maintains drainage; uses and repairs tools and equipment for landscaping; paints structures; repairs leaky faucets; assists MR1 in safely completing tasks and assignments; documents work and communicates effectively with supervisor. Replaces light bulbs, shades, switches; assists MR1 in electrical maintenance and repair; and oils, adjusts and cares for electrical motors. Paints buildings, rooms, walls, signs, or other surfaces as assigned. Cuts grass using lawn care equipment. Maintains center buildings, facilities and structures by completing minor repairs and new construction to these structures. Uses hand and power tools to complete assigned tasks using knowledge of various trades including electrical, plumbing, masonry, carpentry and painting. Maintains building roofs by cleaning gutters, downspouts and appropriate roof areas. Constructs and /or maintains trails, roads, road gutters and drainage pipes through the use of hand power tools, tractors and dump truck. Transports trash and recycling cans to proper areas and transports recycled materials to recycling centers. Constructs and /or repairs teaching stations, benches, picnic tables, access gates, signs and steps using blueprints, math, carpentry skills, hand and power tools. Maintains center vehicles including mini-van, pick-ups, tractors, Gator. Operates center vehicles in a safe manner to complete job assignments. Performs preventative maintenance and repair of hand tools, power equipment and small engines. Keeps records by completing all necessary forms/records, such as daily records, automotive mileage sheets, fuel dispensing records, leave slips, etc. in a neat and accurate manner. Builds doors; lays linoleum; makes repairs to floors; takes out and replaces screens and repairs screens as needed; replaces broken windows, and sash weights; and repairs door checks and locks. Mixes cement and plaster; helps to lay blocks, bricks and pour cement forms; and makes minor plastering repairs. Keeps inventories of all automotive and maintenance supplies and advises lead worker or supervisor of replacement needs. Removes snow from sidewalks and parking lots using basic snow removal equipment. Cuts damaged and fallen trees using handsaws and chainsaws (if trained). Collects water samples using proper procedures and delivers samples to local laboratory for testing. Pumps water from well to storage tank. Also assists in mixing and monitoring chlorinator. Operates hand and electrical tools, pumps, generators, drill press, compressors, chainsaws, vehicles and other equipment needed to complete assigned tasks. Secures buildings and gates when supervisors are on leave or assignments/ Makes materials lists with items, quantities, price estimates, etc. Checks mechanical equipment in all buildings including: heating and cooling systems, fire and burglar alarm systems, water and sewer systems, generator and reports any problems to lead worker or supervisor immediately. Picks up and disposes of litter and garbage from park grounds, parking lots, roadways, etc. and disposes of in park dumpster. Performs related work as required using prescribed safety precautions. |
