Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Required to utilize a Commercial Driver’s License in the operation of motorized equipment including, but not limited to, the following: dozers, backhoes, front end loaders, tractors, truck-trailer combinations, dump trucks, large tilt bed trucks, sprayers, mowers, grain elevators. Leads Game Land Maintenance Workers I, Maintenance Workers II, volunteers and other assigned employees or personnel in the construction, maintenance, use of equipment and techniques for maintaining and enhancing State Game Lands and other lands under lease which includes construction and maintenance of buildings, roads, and game land management areas. Supervises, leads, instructs, and performs wildlife habitat work; such as border cuts, browse cuts, hedgerow and shrub pruning and mowing, fruit tree pruning and daylighting, timber stand improvement cuts, seedling planting and distribution, and other forest habitat management. Identifies woody plants and safely uses chainsaws, hand tools, power tools, tractors and attachments, bulldozers, and other equipment as necessary to accomplish these duties. Supervises, leads, instructs, develops, and/or maintains food plots, and other wildlife management areas. Acquires understanding of soil characteristics, soil amendments (e.g. fertilizer and lime), crop planting and rotations, seed collection, grafting and other nursery practices, and pesticides. Safely and competently uses tractors and attached implements, bulldozers, power tools, and hand tools to accomplish these duties. Supervises, leads, instructs, and assists with construction, development, and maintenance of infrastructure, facilities and resource areas using various carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, landscaping, mechanical, and welding tools on State Game Lands, administrative areas, or other lands under agreement. Utilizes various cleaning products, lubricants, preservatives, chemicals, and solvents in the execution of these duties. Examples of such infrastructure, facilities, and resource areas include: buildings, roads, water impoundments and control devices, fences, gates, signs, boundaries, parking areas, bridges, drain culverts and tile, trails (e.g. snowmobile, hunter access, horse/bike, disabled hunter ATV), etc. Supervises, leads, instructs, and/or assists with prescribed fire operations based on the level of training within the Pennsylvania prescribed fire standards. Successfully completes all appropriate training requirements as deemed by the Region Office. Safely and competently uses motorized equipment, chainsaws, water pumps, and other water delivery systems, fire ignition systems, hand and power tools, manuals and handbooks, personal protection equipment, and weather monitoring tools as required. Acquires and maintains a pesticide applicator’s license as required by the Region Office. Safely and competently uses pesticides for wildlife management, maintenance, and control of invasive species. Supervises, leads, instructs, maintains, develops and/or re-establishes boundary lines on State Game Lands, administrative areas, and other lands under agreement as directed by supervising personnel. Safely and competently uses chainsaws, brush-cutters, pruning equipment, paint sprayers, GPS units and surveying equipment, power and hand tools, etc. Properly maintains appropriate related records. Supervises, leads, instructs and/or performs all habitat management related duties; such as streambank fencing, wetland restoration, grassland restoration, food plots, forest habitat management, agricultural practices, water level manipulations, nuisance and/or invasive species control, planting seedlings, nesting/roosting box development and maintenance, etc. Safely and competently uses heavy equipment, hand and power tools, motorized equipment, etc. Operates, maintains and repairs motorized equipment in a safe and competent manner. Participates in check station operations as required. Handles animal specimens and carcasses, performs animal stocking and reintroduction activities, collects biologic samples or data, performs animal trapping, performs animal tagging or marking, and performs other activities in support of biological aspects of wildlife management. Participates in information and education activities as required; such as building or setup of displays, participating in tours, and staffing exhibits and displays at events, etc. Cooperates with assisting agencies, organizations, and groups, and interacts with the public in a professional manner. Reports violations on State Game Lands, administrative lands, and other lands under agreement to the proper authority. Directs staff in the posting of information signs on State Game Lands, administrative lands, and other lands under agreement. Performs a variety of administrative, budgeting, purchasing, reporting, and record keeping tasks; which requires the use of computers, phone recorders, phones, cameras, electronic equipment, files, etc. Develops work plans and job descriptions, evaluates and reviews subordinates, administers disciplinary action, interviews employee candidates, assigns tasks and duties, and performs the full range of supervisory duties. Attends meetings and training as deemed necessary by supervisors, which will occasionally require overnight travel. Adheres to the proper chain of command, and completes tasks as directed by supervising personnel. Performs other related duties as assigned. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Walk, climb, reach, bend, stoop, kneel, sit, and stand for extended periods of time. 2. Prepare maps and written reports. 3. Perform duties which require exposure to mechanical and electrical parts. 4. Perform duties which may include exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, loud noises, and various types of wildlife. 5. Obtain Pesticide Applicator’s License to maintain game lands and lands under agreement. 6. Complete chain saw safety training courses. 7. Complete prescribed fire training courses. 8. Utilize computer and office equipment. 9. Maintain effective working relationships. 10. Perform the full range of supervisory duties. 11. Develop and implement work plans. 12. Interpret rules, regulations, and policies. 13. Follow oral and written instructions. 14. Communicate effectively; orally and in writing. 15. Operate and maintain assigned equipment and vehicles. 16. Use hands and fingers to grasp and operate hand tools, power tools, and mechanized/motorized equipment. 17. Traverse uneven obstacles and terrain in all weather conditions. 18. Utilize techniques and methodology of designing, planting, and maintaining food plots for wildlife habitat. 19. Lift heavy objects up to 80 lbs. |
