Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Under the general supervision of the T.A.S., T.A.W. or other assigned supervisor, the employee implements the following job tasks throughout the therapeutic activities department. Implements Therapeutic Activities for assigned clients. These activities include, but are not limited to, Physical Activities, Vocational Activities, Self-Help Activities, Audio-Visual Activities, Environmental Excursions, Personal Hygiene and Grooming Activities, Community Training and Social Activities. The employee implements these activities by interacting with the clients on an individual or group basis, carrying out program plans, encouraging client participation, and directing and assisting clients in these activities so that each client may derive the maximum individual benefits from participation. Consistently maintains equipment and materials in a usable state of repair by ensuring that equipment and materials are used in a proper manner and that repair requests are submitted for equipment that does not function properly so that the maximum use of equipment and materials is obtained. Functions as a resource person for Aides and other staff by providing specific information and techniques that may be utilized with clients so that clients may demonstrate progress and derive maximum benefits from work training activities. Provides the T.A.W. with an accurate record of client usage and Work Training activities by recording the attendance of each client engaged in Work Training so that cost apportionment and a review of activities utilization may be formulated. The employee observes and reports on client behavior as required. The employee transports clients on campus and off campus as required. The employee implements special and seasonal activities as required. The employee writes documentation as required by employee’s supervisor. The employee attempts to maintain good relationships with the clients and other employees. The employee participates in housekeeping functions at the work site. The employee promotes good health and safety practices at all times and reports any unsafe or hazardous conditions to his/her supervisor. The employee requests supplies as needed. The employee attends in-service and out-service training as required. The employee attends multidisciplinary meetings as requested by the employee’s supervisor. The employee performs other duties as required. |

Example: In response to a customer inquiry, this work involves researching the status of an activity and preparing a formal response for the supervisor’s signature. Direct supervision is given. The general goals for the program are established with the Supervisor. Department policies and program goals are monitored on a regular basis by the supervisor. Conferences are held with the supervisor for the purpose of instructions, new work assignments and program review, as needed. Routine decisions made on an independent basis. More complex decisions are referred to the immediate supervisor. |
