Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

PROVIDES MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS TO ALL STATE OWNED VEHICLES TO EFFECTIVELY MAINTAIN THE FLEET.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

25% - Performs multiple Agency specialized upfitting to include, prisoner cages, gun racks, lighting, TAC boxes, fire brackets, decals, & slide boxes (electric and manual).

50% - Performs annual state inspections for safety and emissions on state vehicles. Performs inspection repairs to ensure compliance with state regulations, road tests, and completes inspection stickers and related records.
Performs preventative maintenance jobs on both gas & diesel units such as tune-ups, tires changes, transmission services, coolant flushes, air/fuel filters, and oil changes per manufacturer & PSP maintenance recommendations. Performs advanced vehicle diagnosis on all vehicle components including but not limited to: Drivetrain, steering, suspension, brakes, computers, HVAC, fuel systems, emissions, etc.
Checks for and performs PCM (computer), TCM, & Module updates as needed.
Prepares new vehicles for department use, and higher mileage vehicles for reassignment. Prepares unserviceable vehicles for auction.
Provides technical support & feedback to aid in the research, design, and implementation new/customized products related to the upfitting process.


15% - Performs the repair and replacement of suspension components such as ball joints, control arms, idler arms, Pitman arms, wheel bearings, etc. Performs repair and replacement of brake systems, disc brakes, drum brakes, calipers, cylinders, fittings, etc. Performs maintenance and replacement of electrical systems, alternators, batteries, ignitions, etc. Performs maintenance and replacement of cooling system components, hoses, belts, fans, water pumps, etc. Performs major and minor engine repairs, including replacement of camshafts, bearings, pistons, oil pumps, and engine overhauls. Performs repair and replacement of fuel systems, exhaust systems, transmissions, and differentials.

5% - Responds to and completes requests for road service maintenance and repair.

5% - Performs other related duties as assigned.

Decision Making:

Example: In response to a customer inquiry, this work involves researching the status of an activity and preparing a formal response for the supervisor’s signature.

Incumbent performs advanced diagnosis, upfitting, and most maintenance & repair actions without consulting with the supervisor. All major repairs must be discussed with the appropriate supervisor.
