Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This is a first level professional position assigned to the Therapeutic Activities Services Department. The incumbent receives supervision and guidance from the Therapeutic Activities Services Supervisor. The person in this position is responsible for providing therapeutic programs and combines various aspects of Therapeutic Recreation, Occupational Therapy, Vocational Adjustment Services, and follow the "Recovery Model". |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Specific duties include: 1. Evaluate and assess the strengths and needs of consumers assigned or transferred to the buildings and also re-evaluate on an annual basis, responding to their age-specific and special needs, by using the Department's standardized assessment form so that the individual goals for consumers are utilized in program planning and ITP's. 2. Participate in developing therapeutic activity goals and plans for Individual Treatment Plans (ITP’s) and assign each consumer to TAS programs which respond to their age-specific and special needs, by making use of Department assessment and standards in order to meet needs of individual consumers. Present goals and plans in verbal or written form to be included in individual consumers' ITPs. 3. Develop program goals and objectives, design and implement therapeutic programs by including segments of therapeutic recreation, occupational therapy, and vocational adjustment services, following the Recovery/ Psychosocial Rehabilitation, in order to meet consumers' individual needs. 4. Evaluate and assess various segments of therapeutic programs through observation and formal review to determine the quality and appropriateness of programs in relation to the consumers served. 5. Maintain administrative and clinical records by following Department and Hospital Standards in order to document consumer treatment and fulfill requirements for administrative reviews. 6. Attend multi-disciplinary Treatment Team meetings, according to ward schedule, and/or provide verbal or written Therapeutic Activities recommendations in developing the individual consumers' comprehensive treatment plans. 7. Provide a safe program environment by complying with all Hospital and Department Safety Standards in order to prevent consumer and staff injury. 8. Post current Program Schedules and notification of special events in the ward dayroom or adjacent area in order to make consumers and staff aware of assignments and free-choice activities. 9. Supervise nonprofessional staff and supervise and coordinate building and hospital wide volunteer programs through daily contact and visitation in order to maintain continuity and quality of programs. 10. Attend and participate in Department meetings and in-service training programs when scheduled by Supervisor or Department Head in order to maintain current level of knowledge in the field. 11. Must possess valid PA driver’s license and operate commonwealth vehicles as needed for on grounds usage and community trips. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - “Read, write and communication orally in English.” Communicates clearly in writing and orally, or in any other way to perform the essential job functions. - Works effectively with consumers to fully utilize their potential and facilitate their involvement in therapeutic activity programs. - Works effectively with other staff and volunteers to provide therapeutic activity programs. - Travels, as needed, to provide therapeutic activity programs both inside facility buildings and at outside recreational areas and provide trips to the community. - Provides therapeutic activity programs, including but not limited to leisure activity and active recreational community living skills and Satellite Workshop programs for consumers in a mental health facility. - Observe and evaluate consumer behavior in order to assess level of functioning and assign them to appropriate therapeutic activity programs. - Analyzes effectiveness of therapeutic activity programs and implements them to meet consumer's needs. - “Obtains and maintains Crisis Intervention and CPR certification and appropriately utilizes skills.” - “Work overtime as required, subject to emergency call in.” |
