The Park Resource Ranger, under the supervision of the Park Manager, is responsible for performing a variety of public safety and visitor services designed to promote the safe utilization of recreational facilities at a state park. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Ensures visitor safety, provides patrons with information and educates the public about park rules and regulations, and protects park resources. Provides information, rules, and regulations to park visitors; ensuring posters, bulletin boards and signs are current and serviceable; directs park visitors away from hazardous and unsafe conditions and/or situations; educates patrons on use of park resources and facilities in designated area, including guided trail hikes, park history, water recreation activities, beach and bathing areas, and environmental features; inspects buildings, structures, facilities, and park grounds for security and safety; reports rule and regulation violations to appropriate personnel; ensures assigned equipment and work areas are maintained in a clean and safe condition performing related maintenance and custodial duties where appropriate; maintains and monitors public-accessible beach rescue equipment and public safety first aide kits; responding to emergency situations, such as water and automobile accidents to ensure visitor safety; in cases of emergency makes appropriate notification to emergency personnel; administers first-aid and/or cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as necessary to injured park visitors; assists in search and rescue operations within State Park grounds and boundaries; areas of responsibility are throughout Keystone State Park boundaries and include all park facilities, campground and day use areas, roads, trails, and lakes, including beach and bathing areas. This may require the position operates a motor vehicle, ATV, bicycle, or boat to monitor park grounds at Keystone State Park. EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED, BUT NOT LIMITED TO: Work includes staffing the office or contact station during designated office hours to answer questions, sell park memorabilia, register campers, and complete necessary reports and correspondence. Office work will require use of computer systems such as the Parks Reservation and Revenue System and other basic office programs. Issues modified courtesy notices for parking violations and/or issues parking tickets when appropriate with prior approval of the park manager. Presents Park related information to civic groups, sportsman’s associations, and other groups on and off site. Assists the EE staff with programs and presentations as directed by supervisor. Collects and reports data for attendance program and Conservation Volunteer program. Prepares letters, memoranda, correspondence, and reports as required. Operates the park radio system in accordance with established procedures. Inspects trails and boundaries to ensure markers and signs are in place. Performs light maintenance, custodial duties and resource management duties as needed and directed by the park manager. Performs additional and related work as required. Assists with implementation of the cleaning contract and waste management contract. Employee is responsible to ensure the appearance and operations of the beach area meet the standards that have been set. Resource Management work could include, but is not limited to, prescribed fire, use of herbicides, utilizing chainsaws and hiking off trail. Performs other work as assigned. Obtain CPR/First Aid yearly updates. |

Employee determines if park rules and regulations are being violated, and responds accordingly, informing Park Manager or DCNR Ranger if further action is warranted. Employee determines and addresses safety concerns within the park; answers questions from the public regarding the park’s features and activities; and recognizes and responds to emergency situations. Work is assigned in the form of oral or written instructions and is reviewed upon completion for adherence to standards, completeness and quality by a technical, professional or administrative supervisor. Once work is assigned and understood employee shall be able to display sound judgement and decision making to complete task without direct oversight. |
