Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. This is professional work in the development and presentation of environmental, historical, and cultural interpretive programs and activities at Little Buffalo State Park. In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 this position is required to complete Child Abuse, Criminal and Federal Criminal History Checks around the time of hire and thereafter every 5 years. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Plans, develops, coordinates and presents environmental and historical education, outdoor recreation and interpretive programs and activities at Little Buffalo State Park. Performs all phases and types of environmental education and interpretive programs including the planning, preparing of lesson plans, scheduling, developing, implementing, coordinating, effectively presenting and evaluating. Facilitates environmental and historical education, outdoor recreation and interpretive activities by conducting inquiry-based learning experiences, audiovisual presentations, guided walks, educator professional development workshops, and other environmental and historical learning programs. Provides assistance to educational institutions, civic groups, and public and private organizations in developing and implementing environmental and historical education and interpretive programs, educator professional development workshops, and curriculum development. Operates and maintains visitor service centers and resource libraries. Operates and maintains Shoaff's Mill, a 19th-century fully operational, water powered gristmill. Facilitates and schedules group and public tours and demonstrations. Facilitates environmental learning activities using established lesson plans including but not limited to Bureau of State Park lesson plans, Pennsylvania Land Choices, Pennsylvania Songbirds, Project WET, Project Wild, and Project Learning Tree. Implements Bureau of State Park’s Watershed Education Program for teachers and students from local schools. Schedules programs and prepares lesson plans using the Bureau approved format and submits required reports on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis. Maintains natural, historic, cultural, and archeological collections. Assists in researching and developing educational publications and exhibits. Coordinates the use, repair, and maintenance of environmental and historical education, outdoor recreation and interpretive equipment. Develops and presents localized special activities for park visitors and environmental historical and interpretive programs focusing on localized natural history, historic and cultural events, and resource management issues for students, youth groups, special populations, civic organizations, and others. Prepares letters, memoranda, correspondence, reports, lesson plans and other written or digital materials. Submits data for reporting purposes such as program attendance. With assistance of the Park Manager and salary Environmental Education Specialist, serves as a volunteer coordinator for the park complex. Travels to various work locations. Attends training to gain and/or maintain first aid and adult, child, & infant CPR/AED certifications. Attends training and meetings as required by regional and bureau OPS division, including day and overnight travel. Performs related work as required. |
