The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing professional nursing care and treatment services following long term care state and federal regulatory guidelines. The Registered Nurse assesses the residents' physical, psychosocial and/or mental health status and performs ongoing assessments of resident and resident care needs; utilizes nursing diagnosis and treatment in developing and implementing ITP; complies with LTC Resident Assessment Instrument manual; prescribes, coordinates, and delegates nursing care; collaborates with other facility disciplines. The RN provides nursing expertise to interdisciplinary treatment team; assesses, records, reports, and evaluates vital signs, symptoms, and reactions or responses to medication and treatment; participates in staff development programs; provides ongoing orientation/education and on-the-job training to non-professional nursing personnel; utilizes least restrictive measures, follows hospital/ nursing policy in the care and documentation of residents. The RN adheres to infection control/HIV policies and procedures; utilizes crisis prevention techniques; accurately complies with medication policy and completion of physician's orders; applies knowledge of Hospital/Nursing policies and procedures; maintains awareness of Living Area conditions, therapeutic milieu, and resident activities; acts as resident advocate; participates in Nursing and hospital P.I. activities; utilizes therapeutic communication; provides knowledgeable daily communication; applies professional nursing concepts, techniques, and procedures in resident care; and interacts with others in a cooperative manner to develop effective working relationships.

The RN participates in nursing and facility committees/activities; provides health promotion and maintenance through teaching, guidance, and counseling; assigns and directs the work of professional personnel and supervises assigned non-professional staff. Prepares and submits reports as required; develops, recommends and directs changes in the administration of Nursing care and treatment methods and plans; provides guidance to paraprofessional staff in implementing, receiving and modifying the residents’ plan of care. Completes employee evaluations and competency assessments; performs other related duties as requested.
