Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This is semi-skilled labor work in the construction and maintenance of various public works projects. Work involves the use of a variety of hand and power construction and maintenance tools of various trades. The work frequently requires the application of skills acquired on the job.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

1. Employee assists in the maintenance and grading of State Forest roads by cleaning the heads and tails of culverts, installing culverts, building head and tail walls on culverts, picking and removing stones, leaves, and other debris from road surfaces, filling potholes, and resurfacing roads with stone or shale.
2. Employee assists in brushing roads, trails, and other areas by cutting forest growth using hand saws, chain saws, brush axes, tree pruners, lopping shears, and motorized woodchippers, and other hand and power tools.
3. Employee assists in the suppression of wildfires using fire rakes, chain saws, shovels, backpack fire tanks, fire hoses, fire pumps, Class ‘A’ foam, and other hand and power tools.
4. Employee assists in wildfire pre-suppression and prevention work.
5. Employee mows lawns using walk-behind and riding lawn mowers and tractors, rakes leaves and debris from lawn and other areas, uses gas-powered “weed whackers and other hand and powered tools at the office, picnic area, and other district facilities.
6. Employee cleans restrooms at parking lots and the picnic area.
7. Employee plants trees and acorns, installs tree shelters, and maintains deer exclusion fences.
8. Employee maintains and paints buildings, signs, gates, and State Forest boundary lines.
9. Employee cleans litter from State Forest roads, trails and other areas on State Forest lands.
10. Employee operates light and medium trucks, small tractors, All-Terrain Vehicles, and other vehicles permitted under a Class ‘C’ Pennsylvania Driver’s License.
11. Employee loads and unloads trucks and assists in loading and unloading heavy equipment on trucks and trailers.
12. Employee completes daily reports on vehicles operated, time and attendance records, Activity Management Information System (AMIS) forms, mileage sheets, and other records as required.
13. Employee performs minor repairs and preventative maintenance work on tools and equipment and assists the automotive mechanic in making repairs to vehicles and equipment.
14. Employee completes safety checks and inspections of tools and equipment prior to operation and maintains records of operated tools and equipment.
15. Employee assists as needed in District Forest insect and disease programs.

Employee is assigned specific duties each day by a Forest Maintenance Supervisor. Upon completion of the assigned duties, the employee will seek additional duties from the Forest Maintenance Supervisor or in the supervisor's absence, perform other productive work on his own initiative.
