Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This is a supervisory position in wildland fire. The purpose of this position is supervising employees engaged in wildland fire work, conducting wildfire suppression, prevention, investigation, and implementing prescribed fire use.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Supervisor of all assigned employees including Wildland Fire Responders.

Able to meet department standards for wildland fire fighter, state forest fire warden, and state forest officer.

Coordinate the wildland fire program and suppression response in an assigned area.

Supervisor:
Direct workforce, set schedules, and establish standards
Prepare employee performance evaluations
Conduct discipline
Review and approve payroll and leaves
Prepare required reports and records

Wildland fire Pre-suppression program:
Organizing, training, and equipping of employees, fire wardens and crews
Maintaining in ready condition all vehicles, tools, equipment, and communication devices
Establishing working relationships with cooperating agencies and communities.
Assisting with the Federal grants and property programs
Assisting with preparing district wildland fire resource plan
Assisting with planning and instructing wildland fire trainings
Attending all required trainings for certifications and updates

Wildfire suppression program:
Coordinate response to all detected wildfires
Understanding and use of the Incident Command System
Conducting fire size up to determine initial attack and suppression methods
Investigate all wildfires to determine point of origin, cause and responsible party
Prepare wildfire and investigation reports using agency procedures

Wildfire prevention:
Assisting with identifying and reducing wildfire fuel hazards
Coordinating the community prevention and mitigation programs
Presenting wildfire informational and educational programs
Conducting Smokey Bear wildfire prevention programs

Prescribed Fire:
Meeting department requirements for participating in Prescribed fire use
Assisting with developing prescribed fire plans
Assisting with conducting prescribed fire use

Other Duties as assigned by forest district management:
State Forest Officer
State Forest Fire Warden

Essential Functions

 1. Physically fit and able to perform arduous wildland firefighting work
 2. Lift, move, and a carry items up to 50 lbs
 3. Work extended hours and overtime shifts
 4. Use of wildfire suppression tools and equipment
 5. Operate a motor vehicle
 6. Use of computers, radios, GPS, and other IT devices
 7. Communicate verbally and in writing
 8. Observe department safety standards
 9. Establish and Maintain Working Relationships
 10. Directing and leading wildland fire fighter in suppression and Rx burns
