Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

The primary duty of this position is to perform routine construction and maintenance duties on district facilities, perform building and ground maintenance, maintenance to various type equipment and vehicles, and maintenance and construction of all types of infrastructure within the Pinchot State Forest. This position will also assist with the wildfire program in wildfire prevention, suppression, and investigations.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Performs semi-skilled manual work in the maintenance and construction of District Facilities, State Forest Roads, State Forest Trails, and various types of equipment and vehicles but is not limited to the following:
1.Performs road and trail maintenance and construction. Work includes installation of culverts, French mattress, drain tile, geotext, headwall and tailwall construction, seeding and stabilization of disturbed sites, cleaning of ditches and culvert pipes.

2.Performs trail maintenance and construction. Work includes removing brush and trees with chainsaws, pole pruners, loppers, brush hogs, and rakes.

3.Performs maintenance to grounds across the district. Work includes mowing of grass and brush at district office, all district field locations, along roads, trails, within picnic areas, parking lots, signs, and fire towers.

4.Performs construction, installation, and maintenance of signs, kiosks, and gates. Work includes digging holes, making simple forms, mixing and pouring concrete, striping and painting.

5.Performs maintenance of district facilities. Work includes, but not limited to, fixing facets, windows, doors, roofs, walls, floors, pavilions, latrines, fire towers, radio repeaters, lights, electrical outlets.

6.Performs snow removal and maintaining all snow removal equipment.

7.Performs maintenance of vehicles and equipment and keep in ready use condition.

8.Performs boundary line maintenance. Work includes tagging, painting, and clearing of state forest boundaries.

9.Assists skilled trade workers and assists them in performance of their duties.

10. Clean District Resource Management Center, Maintenance Headquarters, CXT units, and any other district facilities.

11. Utilize and assist equipment operators with use of various lawn equipment, forklifts, and occasionally a backhoe or skidsteer.

12. Assist with organization / storage of equipment and supplies at district facilities.

Provide assistance to staff for the wildfire program in prevention, maintenance, suppression, and training.

Pre-suppression work includes the organizing, training, and equipping of Bureau of Forestry personnel, volunteer fire companies, fire wardens, and volunteer wildland crews.

Maintain in ready condition and provide for maintenance of all assigned vehicles, tools, equipment, and communication devices for wildfire response.

Assist with to identifying, reducing, or eliminating wildfire hazards.

Establish, develop, and maintain working relationships with local, county, state, federal agencies, emergency organizations that assist with wildfire suppression.

Wildfire suppression efforts which includes but is not limited to; Response to all wildfire reports with a fire engine, use and understanding of the Incident Command System, Size up and determine method of initial attack and suppression tactics.

Become certified, maintain position(s), according to Bureau of Forestry policy and procedure and / or NWCG guidelines for wildfire suppression work.

Assist with fire reports, fire bills, and investigations on wildland fire.

Assist with wildfire detection from various fire tower locations.

Assist with the firewise community program and work with the local and state officials to provide input on decisions involving zoning ordinances, regional plans that impact forestry, fire management, and fire hazard issues.

Present wildfire prevention programs to schools and the public.

Other Duties as assigned.
