Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Operator is to provide for the proper settling, biological oxidation, digestion and disinfection of the center wastewater and sludge by reading meters and gauges, operating skimmers, scum breaker, sludge pump, filter pumps and filters, digester, chlorinator and laboratory monitoring and record keeping producing a wastewater effluent of sufficient quality to meet the requirements of the NPDES discharge permit issued by the Department of Environmental Resources. Responsible for maintenance, operation and regulatory compliance necessary to provide safe drinking water, and also ensures that discharge water from sewage is at acceptable levels as established by the Department of Environmental Protection and the Environmental Protection Agency. Also responsible for all sewage/water treatment activities at White Haven Center, which has a design flow of 385,000 gallons. Operator maintains a continuous supply of treated water by operating well pumps, chlorinators and monitoring storage facilities controls and related equipment to ensure water for the Center’s domestic, utility and fire protection needs while meeting the requirements of the safe drinking act. Operator performs preventive and general maintenance on the sewage treatment plant, water treatment plant, therapeutic wading pool filter system and other related equipment and facilities to insure an uninterrupted operation of these services. Examples of preventive and general maintenance: preparation and painting of all equipment related to sewage, water and therapeutic wading pool, repairs on all equipment involving sewage, water and therapeutic wading pool, replacement of glazing on greenhouse as needed. General carpentry work to repair settling tank covers and lids. Operator monitors efficiency of operation and treatment processes of the sewage treatment plant, water treatment plant and therapeutic wading pool by performing specified laboratory tests to ensure compliance with the safe drinking water act and the sewage treatment plant discharge permit requirements. Operates therapeutic wading pool pump, filters, chemical treatment system, backwash system, heating controls when required to insure safe, clean, clear pool water for the self-advocates use and meeting the requirements of the pool permit issues by the Department of Environmental Protections. Operator is responsible for grounds keeping duties at well sites, water tanks and sewage plant; work involves cutting grass and snow removal. Housekeeping functions include cleaning and window washing at Sewage Plant and Well Houses and all facilities related to sewage water and therapeutic wading pool. Performs related work as required. |
