Position Purpose:

The Collection Management Librarian leads the development, management, and assessment of the State Library’s print and electronic collections.


Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

The Collection Management Librarian will:

Analyzes collection growth, use, subscription costs and other resource-related expenditures to inform library administrative decisions regarding budget and collection strategies, and for internal and external reporting.

Develops and implements collection assessment; establishes and uses policies and processes to analyze, acquire, and evaluate library collections.

Coordinates acquisitions of print and electronic resources, manages the acquisitions budget in coordination with the Bureau Director and produces financial reports to track monies allocated, encumbered, and expended.

Serve as primary contact for vendors and works with the office Administrative Officer to process and track all invoices and payment.

Oversees all aspects of resource acquisitions, including ordering, receiving, and invoicing of library materials in all formats and order types – standing orders, subscriptions, donations, etc.

Coordinate weeding projects with bureau staff and the Department of General Services.
Formulates strategic collections planning, coordinating collection development policies and managing collections projects.

Collaborates with other library units in all matters related to collection development and management including the refinement of communication and workflows.

Works with the subject librarians to evaluate, enhance and manage the collection as well as train and mentor subject librarians in relation to their collection duties.

Maintain an awareness of the trends and issues affecting collection management and development.

Works the reference desk as scheduled.

Determines materials to be featured/included in orientation/ instructional presentations during staff training.

Determines appropriate communication skills to use when providing direct customer service and communicating with vendors.

Determines and implements varied conflict resolution skills to use when providing direct customer service.

Remains alert to work environment and advises supervisor of perceived problems or issues warranting attention.

Requirements Profile: Identify any specific experience or requirements, such as a licensure, registration, or certification, which may be necessary to perform the functions of the position. Experience:

One year of experience as a Librarian 2 or Rare Books Librarian (commonwealth titles); OR Three years of professional library experience, and a master’s degree in library science, library services, or a closely related field; OR Four years of professional library experience; OR An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes two years of professional library experience.
