Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Performs pre-audits processing of designated travel expense reports submitted to the Bureau of Commonwealth Payroll Operations ensuring compliance with all rules and regulations, including those promulgated by the Governor, Executive Board, Office of the Budget, Office of Administration, Secretary of General Services, and the Legislature.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Pre-audits travel expense reports submitted to the Bureau of Commonwealth Payroll Operations, which requires the accurate interpretation of Commonwealth travel regulations and an understanding of the unique operational aspects of each department.

Assists the supervisor with reviewing and pre-auditing high risk areas on travel expense reports including hotel and car rental justifications, miscellaneous expenses, foreign travel, and expense reports for priority and non-Commonwealth employees.

Handles inquiries from agency employees, agency travel arrangers, etc. regarding travel expense reports, interpretation of travel regulations, preparation of travel reports, and status of travel expense reimbursements.

Interprets applicable Commonwealth travel regulations and allowances authorized under the various union contracts for agencies serviced by this office.

Communicates with personnel regarding travel expenses via telephone contact and/or email to clarify claims based on the interpretation of Commonwealth travel regulations,.

Ensures all pending travel advances are cleared when the appropriate travel expense report is submitted.
