Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. PUBLIC PROGRAMS Has primary role in the development, planning, scheduling, and implementation of all educational and recreational programming at the Center. Adhering to the principles of interpretation, developing program lesson plans that highlight both the environmental and cultural/historic resources at the Center and surrounding area. Utilizes varying presentation methods (e.g., virtual/online programs, guided recreation activities, program series for targeted age groups, inclusive language in and non-personal programming) to offer public programming that serves a diverse community. Contributes to building the Center’s annual program plan, setting objectives and measurable goals each year. Strives to offer opportunities for learning and connection for a variety of audiences. Provides lesson plans for defined educational needs (e.g., school groups, teacher in-service workshops, professional development trainings, learning opportunities for homeschooled and other nontraditional students), are aligned with relevant professional standards and goals. Offers opportunities for youth to engage with the outdoors, apart from school group structures (e.g., youth summer camps, learning series for pre-kindergarten, family targeted programming) Directly involved with documenting and preserving the center’s historical aspects, curating remnants and artifacts from the property’s past, as well as maintaining collections and libraries in the Center’s possession. Maintains, properly stores, and ensures the proper use of the Center’s recreational equipment, as well as supplies, tools, and materials implemented in the Center’s programming. Develops educational and informative publications about Kings Gap, which are produced by the Center. Directly facilitates programming, teaching and guiding programs. COMMUNITY BUILDING / PUBLIC RELATIONS Presents a professional image to the public through adherence to the Bureau’s mission, professional language and conduct, uniform appearance, office cleanliness and preparedness, a thorough knowledge of the park and its operations, a confident and helpful demeanor, verbal and telephone skills, and practiced visitor service skills. Maintains proficiency as a public guide by exercising and conveying an adequate knowledge of the park, as well as park rules and regulations (particularly, of the Mansion and its operations). Maintains working relationships with local and state conservation groups, civic organizations, and the public concerning environmental education recreation programs. Assists in coordinating the Center’s volunteer groups and volunteer efforts. Attends local career fairs, community events, and other venues, with table displays and promotional materials, where there’s a request for PA State Parks to be represented. CLERICAL WORK Maintains a list of contacts and resources with potential to support the Center’s mission. Manages the tracking and recording of volunteer hours. Operates a computer issued by the Commonwealth, utilizing applications and programs prescribed by the Commonwealth, to prepares letters, memoranda, correspondence, reports, lesson plans, program advertisement, and other written material as required. Manages email correspondence in a timely and responsible manner. Assists Park’s Administrative Assistant in managing reservations of the EE Center’s teaching/meeting spaces. Takes a lead role in maintaining the Center’s online and social media presence, as well as advertising and outreach. Manages program reservations, utilizing the Bureau of State Parks reservation system. Maintains records of program participants registrations and waivers when provided. Plans with the Center Manager and Administrative Assistant in budgeting, managing, and spending the Center’s funds that have been allocated for EE operations ADDITIONAL SUPPORT Participates in staff meetings, the coordination of large events, and other efforts that involve staff from multiple areas of the Center’s operations (i.e., educational, maintenance, ranger, clerical, hospitality). When seasonal staff is unavailable: Greets and assists visitors at the front desk. Conducts check-in and check-out procedures for overnight guests and other reservation holders. Answers phones, listens to recorded messages, and passes on messages as needed. Responds to requests from and supports the efforts of the Outdoor Programming Services (OPS) Division to implement statewide goals and initiatives. Hosts trainings and learning opportunities offered by the OPS Division. Works with the Environmental Education Coordinator for the Bureau of State Parks southcentral region (Region 3), to support regional EE efforts and objectives. Represents the Bureau of State Parks, presenting at conferences, meetings, and other professional engagements. Assist other Center staff when critical operations require additional staff support. Travels to and attends a number of required meetings, trainings, and conferences. EMERGENCIES Responds to emergency situations in a manner that’s consistent with park policy, by utilizing the Emergency Manual for Kings Gap Environmental Education Center. Upon notification of an emergency, immediately contacts Center Manager, Park Resource Rangers, other relevant staff, and/or 911. During an emergency, may serve as the point of contact or communication conduit between park staff, emergency response entities, or involved visitors, by utilizing the office phone and/or park radio.
