Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Typical duties include: 1. Employee is responsible for assisting senior civil engineers and the section chief in the in-house design of a wide variety of civil engineering projects including, but not limited to, dam rehabilitation and removal, marinas and docks, boat ramps, erosion control structures, streambank stabilization, roadway stabilization, retaining walls, concrete slabs, culverts, and bridges. Employee assists senior civil engineers and the section chief with hydrology and hydraulic calculations, performing structural design calculations, and the preparation of engineering drawings, specifications and cost estimates. 2. Employee prepares plans and specifications using Civil 3D and utilizing information from site investigations and topographic surveys for the rehabilitation of dams, dam removals, marina dock projects, streambank stabilization projects, and other civil engineering related projects. 3. Employee assists senior civil engineers and section chiefs to perform dam inspections in Forest Districts and State Parks. Employee assist senior civil engineers and section chief to identify needed structural and safety repairs during inspection. 4. Employee assists senior civil engineers and section chief to coordinate with outside consultants contracted to perform dam rehabilitation projects and other civil engineering related projects for the Department. Employee is responsible to assist in the review of proposals and submissions throughout the design process. Employee reviews their engineering design for correctness, accuracy, and feasibility to construct. After acceptance of final plans and specifications, employee forwards the plans and specifications to the Contract Management Section for bidding. 5. Employee conducts periodic visits to project sites to gather information, measurements, assess field conditions, and other pertinent engineering and hydraulic data using survey and other equipment. Inspection of dam and other civil engineer-related structures to determine scope of work for rehabilitation projects. 6. Employee prepares permit applications and other documentation of acquisition of permits or other approvals and variances to construct or modify dam structures and water encroachments, NPDES permits, utility locations or similar facilities subject to Local, State and Federal approval 7. Employee performs materials take-off of quantities needed for construction projects, using engineering drawings and preparation of engineering cost estimates for construction projects. 8. Employee attends conferences, seminars, and training courses to improve the ability to perform job duties and stay current with the latest policies, permit requirements, engineering design practices, and technology. 9.
