Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Provides skilled journey level work for the operation and maintenance of a state park, including making repairs and performing maintenance on vehicles, machinery, buildings, facilities, and equipment in a state park.

Description of Duties:

An employee in this class performs various skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the repair and maintenance of machinery, buildings, bridges and equipment. Work involves proficiency in several trades, with working conditions and the degree of lead work exercised differing by location and conditions and the nature of assignments. Employees exercise technical independence in determining work methods and procedures and receive assignments orally or through written instructions, which may be accompanied by sketches or diagrams. Review of work is received from technical or administrative superiors through inspections and discussions.

Performs skilled and semi-skilled tasks, using skills in the following trades: making repairs and performing maintenance on vehicles, machinery, buildings, bridges and equipment in the state park complex.

Mechanical - perform mechanical work including preventative maintenance on all of the parks vehicles, trucks, tractors, trailers, mowers and small powered equipment. This includes routine work such as changing filters, replacing light bulbs, batteries, belts, undercoating, repairing wiper blades and components, tires and oil; lube jobs, patch jobs, replacing mufflers and tail pipes, etc. Other work may include brake jobs, bearing and U-Joint replacement, radiator work including water pump repair/replacement, alternator replacement, starter replacement, tune-ups, adjusting valves, carburetors etc.
Maintains all oil and gas inventories and reports them to the maintenance supervisor monthly and other officials as needed. Gathers and maintains reporting documents which may include monthly mileage sheets, fuel measurement reports and inspection reports. Responsible for the inventory of oil filters and parts needed to perform routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment. Required to keep the shop area clean and in a usable condition.

Coordinates outsourced repair work with the maintenance supervisor.
Repairs other basic maintenance equipment including but not limited to chainsaws, lawn mowers, snow blowers, weed whackers, boats, generators, etc. Estimates and gathers costs for material needed to maintain repairs.

Electrical work - repairing and installing outlets, switches, lights, electric heaters and fans, etc. Installation of electric service on cabins and park buildings.

Plumbing - install and maintain plumbing fixtures, install and repair lavatories, water closets, water fountains, install and repair water lines, water heating equipment, etc.

Carpentry - make repairs to doors, windows etc., replace cabin logs, operate power carpentry tools and assist with major repairs. Make repairs to roofs; install flashing and lay shingles. Includes hanging, taping, and finishing drywall to build smooth interior walls and ceilings. Removal and installation of hardwood floors.

Welding - weld and braze materials by use of arc and acetylene welders.

Perform repairs on bridge structures, such as building forms, finishing concrete, welding steel components and operating construction equipment as needed.

Paints interior and exterior of buildings, performs masonry work in connection with buildings, foundations, walks and walls.

Leads a small group of semi-skilled laborers in the performance of any of these tasks.

Cuts grass using lawn care equipment.

Removes snow from sidewalks and parking lots, using basic snow removal equipment.

Operates park equipment in daily functions and assists in the repair of park equipment which includes emergency road service and on site repair work. Equipment includes, but is not limited to sedans, small trucks, tractors, backhoes, four wheelers and atv’s mowing tractors, skid steer and other vehicles including dump trucks.

Assists with the cleaning of park cabins, restrooms, and washhouses when the custodial staff is not available or is reduced.

Assists with the cutting and splitting of firewood for use throughout the complex. Assist in the operation of sanitary treatment plants and other specialized park facilities in a training capacity.

Required to travel to various job locations within the complex to perform duties or deliver materials.

Performs related duties and work of lesser classifications as required.

Assists the Park's Safety & Right to Know Officer.

Monitors weather station for National Weather Service


This position may require you to perform your duties at Cook Forest and/or Clear Creek State Park, as needed.
