Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This position participates in a 6-month formal, informal, and on-the-job training program to develop the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to review and examine tax returns, schedules and associated documents and the interpretation and explanation of state tax laws, regulations, and procedures. This position learns to review and make corrections to suspended Employer and Sales Tax returns. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. 1.Attends formal, informal or on-the-job training programs designed to develop technical knowledge, competence and skills in examining tax returns and learn the Commonwealth's tax laws, regulations, bulletins, policies and procedures. 2.Learns how to receive and review various suspended employer or sales tax returns and documents for compliance to state tax laws and regulations to determine liability and make necessary corrections and additions to the return. 3.Learns how to review image tax documents to assure complete, legible information. Verifies the account number; checks that business name and address are complete and verifies the type filer, payment period, due date, in-date and date processed. 4.Learns how to research various sources to verify incomplete, illegible, or missing information and e.g., the PC, phone books, etc.; make telephone calls to business or individual to obtain information and make necessary corrections to tax documents for processing. 5.Learns how to prepare quarterly returns and issue assessments for delinquent periods based on review of the account and/or as a referral from another Bureau/Department when necessary. 6.Learns how to determine if a calculated credit is valid by using all available resources including the taxpayer's contact information. 7.Learns how to refer new accounts to the Registration Division and indicate if it is a new account or an update. 8.Learns how to process suspended returns after the account is assigned. 9.Learns how to transfer returns from incorrect accounts and/or quarters and verify that the transfer can be done. 10.Learns how to research documents that suspended due to a "no record" condition and verify information using Info-Image and various other sources. 11.Learns how to review accounts and when incorrect liabilities or credits appear on the account, the liability is adjusted to reflect the correct amount owed. 12.Learns how to request corrected returns when the return cannot be processed because of insufficient or incorrect data. 13.As needed, assist other divisions within Returns Processing, the Taxation Deputate, and other bureaus within the department to provide the best customer service possible. 14.Learns how to help taxpayers and payroll companies with Employer and Sales Tax upload files. 15.Learns how to use PATH, myPATH, Telefile, Bridges, Right Now Email, and Genesys systems. 16.Performs other duties as required. 17.Demonstrate a commitment to the service-oriented culture of the Department. 18.Apply Lean thinking in day-to-day tasks 19.Be mindful of internal controls and risk management when changes are made to a process. 20.Treats others equitably and adheres to diversity and inclusion program requirements in the workplace. |
