Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. * Prepares complete sets of right-of-way and construction drawings for minor projects including determining quantities of materials, grade lines, drainage, curve data, special requirements, and other documents needed for a complete design package. * Computes and checks geometry for line changes; lay out grade lines and computes gradients; adjusts grade to meet existing conditions and other controls; computes earthwork and materials quantities; plots roadway and channel templates on cross sections; plots or checks topography and contour lines to determine drainage requirements; locates and computes pipe size needed; calculates and lays out channel changes; computes superelevation and curve data and performs related CADD & design activities to assist in preparing plans for complex projects. * Performs all drafting and detailing work associated with the development and preparation of highway plans from preliminary sketches to final detailed working plans. * Prepares portions of plans for less complex highway projects such as resurfacing, restoration, and rehabilitation, lane widening and safety and intersection improvement projects. * Prepares all plans from preliminary sketches to final working plans for highway construction, including right-of-way drawings, profiles, cross sections, drainage, and final construction plans with guidance from a higher level technician or professional. * Applies and interprets survey notes, aerial photographs, and engineering data. * May participate in field trips with project engineers and/or designers to assist in making measurements, notes, and sketches. * Performs work assigned from Squad Leader, as required. Position Description – Safety 1. Assess your environment and be responsible for your safety, the safety of co-workers, and the public. 2. Attend required safety training and adhere to the requirements of all safety manuals, policies, and laws. 3. Immediately report to your supervisor any incident, unsafe practice, or near miss. 4. When in an enclosed environment (office buildings, confined spaces, flagger stations, equipment pinch points, etc.), know your evacuation process and escape route, your communication protocols, and appropriately react in the event of an incident. |
