Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

 In order to ensure the integrity of racing, Livestock Worker I is assigned to collect urine and assist in the taking of blood samples for testing purposes.

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

1. Collect urine from assigned horses.
2. Pick up sample kit from state vet’s office; verify samples numbers on urine cup, security straps and witness receipt.
3. Notify state vet urine has been collected and assist vet in bleeding horse.
4. The horse must be under the observation of the livestock worker at all times.
5. Identify the horse by reading the tattoo number.
6. Return sample, split and wrap urine and blood samples according to established guidelines.
7. Clean work area.
8. Bed stalls.
9. Other work deemed necessary or appropriate by supervisor.

Livestock Worker determines if sufficient amount of urine has been collected to be analyzed. Decision regarding horses receiving medications and how long the Livestock Worker will stay in the stall will be determined by the state vet.
