Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This is trainee level work involving public contact and service, public safety, and law enforcement at the Presque Isle State Park Complex, participating in formal, informal, and on-the-job training to develop the necessary skills and techniques in the areas of public contact and service, conservation principles, environmental education, public safety, and law enforcement to perform the work of a DCNR Ranger. This position performs duties that are routinely executed seven days a week and will be routinely scheduled to work weekends, evenings and holidays as needed for park operations and to meet seasonal needs. |
Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Work involves participating in formal classroom instruction for effective customer service practices, current conservation and outdoor recreation practices, and basic techniques and theory of environmental education; participating in formal classroom and physical training required to obtain authority to exercise the power of arrest; and participating in field assignments to effectively demonstrate practical applications of classroom training and for adherence to agency policies and regulations. PATROLS – Operates a motor vehicle, bicycle, ATV or boat to assist in patrolling park grounds at the Presque Isle State Park Complex. Assists in ensuring visitor safety and protection of the resource. Provides assistance to visitors as requiring help. Inspects buildings, structures and facilities for security and safety. Ensures the posters, bulletin boards and signs are current and serviceable. Ensures assigned equipment and work areas are maintained in a clean and neat condition. PUBLIC RELATIONS - Presents a professional Park Ranger Trainee image to the general public through uniform appearance, verbal skills, courtesies, and knowledge of the park, the environment and history, rules, regulations and laws, telephone skills and a presence of self-confidence. Provides information and assistance to park visitors. Staffs Park offices and visitor centers. Registers Park visitors using PRRS. LAW ENFORCEMENT – Accompanies Supervisor and/or DCNR Rangers on patrol; assisting in providing visitor and law enforcement services; and assisting in preparing written reports. Assists in maintaining property log, lost and found articles, attendance reports and assists in maintain water-testing logs. Maintain radio equipment inventory and repairs. EMERGENCIES – Assists in emergency situations to ensure the safety and protection of the visitor and the resource. Provides first aid and CPR consistent with current certifications. Directs traffic. REPORTS AND INSPECTIONS – Assists and completes monthly and daily logs including the status and condition of campgrounds, group camps, facilities, equipment, visitor safety, occurring incidents, citations, arrests, accidents and attendance. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Successful completion of a structured law enforcement training program to obtain possession of Agency’s Commission to exercise powers of arrest. |
