Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. GENERAL The Maintenance Repairman 1, under the supervision of the Park Maintenance Supervisor, is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance tasks that are carried out with a great deal of attention and organization. Responsibilities include assisting in the maintenance of all buildings, vehicles, equipment, and infrastructure. Work also involves having the basic knowledge and ability to assist in the methods, materials, tools, practices, hazards, and safety practices of the following trades: carpentry, plumbing, heating, mechanical, masonry, electrical, welding, and landscaping. The employee must also have the basic knowledge and ability to assist and/or operate tractors, dump trucks, pickup trucks, various motorized turf maintenance equipment, chainsaws, trimmers and to read/understand manuals associated with the equipment. Work is assigned in the form of oral or written instructions and is reviewed upon completion for adherence to standards, completeness and quality. Provides assistance to park patrons and explains park rules and regulations. Practices safety in all aspects of the job and on a daily basis. Assists in implementing an active safety program by reviewing safety procedures on a regular and daily basis. Assist in the annual inventory of supplies, fuels, equipment and tools and prepares related reports. Acts as a lead worker to Semi-Skilled Laborers during the completion of projects. FACILITIES AND MAINTENANCE Applies a basic knowledge in the following trades of park maintenance and is skilled in one: 1. Painting – Performs a variety of work in painting/staining buildings, signs, bridges, and other work associated with the trade. 2. Carpentry – performs a variety of work in basic level carpentry i.e. assembling and building of picnic tables, window frames, benches, cabinets, bulletin boards, and display cases; construct and/or repair wooden foot or auto bridges, fences, and roofs; install paneling, molding, and trim. Assists with in-depth construction i.e. buildings from the start to its completion, and other work associated with the trade. 3. Plumbing – Performs basic plumbing repairs i.e. fix leaky faucets, clear clogged drains, minor issues. Assists in a variety of work in maintaining water systems i.e. install and repair plastic and copper pipes, water heaters, sinks, toilets, fountains, seepage beds, drains, culvert pipe, hose bibs on buildings, and other work associated with the trade. 4. Heating – assist in a variety of work in routine maintenance and minor repairs to heating systems or employs qualified technician for repairs when needed. 5. Mechanical – Performs a variety of work in basic mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance i.e. replacing brakes, fluid and filter changes, tires, tubes, belts and hoses on cars, trucks, power equipment, and tractors. Perform minor repair work on all vehicles, including ignition, engine, exhaust, mechanical systems, and other work associated with this trade. Repair hydraulic systems, couplings, and replace pumps and valves on tractors and backhoe. 6. Masonry – Performs basic masonry work i.e. mixing and pouring cement, minor plastering work, minor concrete work. Assists with laying foundations and block, pour cement, construct concrete abutments for steel bridges, and other work associated with the trade. 7. Electrical – Performs minor electrical work i.e. replacing receptacles, light fixtures, switches, light bulbs, and testing of power outlets. Assist in a variety of work in installing/repairing electric service boxes, outlets, lights and switches, underground cable, wiring buildings, and other work associated with the trade. Periodically check and maintain wiring in all buildings. 8. Mowing Turf Areas – Performs a variety of work in the mowing of turf areas, planting and maintaining of seed/grass, and other work associated with the trade. 9. Landscaping – Performs a variety of work in planting of trees and shrubs, grading and landscaping around buildings and other work associated with the trade. 10. Flooring - repairs, replaces, and installs a variety of flooring in park facilities. Performs all work related to park maintenance, including litter pick-up, cleaning of all facilities, and opening/closing of facilities. Other work and tasks performed: 1. Trails - removes brush and fallen trees and paints/marks trails, repairs to bridges. Assists in major maintenance and construction on bridges. 2. Beach - placement of safety buoys; performs daily maintenance on sand; installs and performs maintenance on ADA railing and walkways; prepares beach for operations by installing lifeguard chairs, transporting supplies to lifeguard building, harrowing beach and assisting with installation of buoy lines. 3. Campground - maintains sites and roadway; ensure sites are clean and free of debris; keeps fire rings clean and replaces when needed. 4. Roads - clean drains, ditches and culverts, repairs potholes, and plows snow. 5. Park Signs - maintains and constructs, paints, and places signs as directed. 6. Vehicles - Performs and records routine equipment maintenance. 7. Invasive Species - Receives and maintains a technician or applicator license for the treatment of invasive species throughout the park. Responsible for maintenance and storage of equipment, chemicals and required logs. 8. Cost Estimation - Possess the ability to estimate required supplies and materials necessary to complete projects and determine cost estimation. 9. Blueprints, schematics, and diagrams - Possess the ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics, and diagrams of utilities, facilities, and equipment. Performs additional and related work as required. |
