Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This position is responsible for ensuring the maintenance, operability, and inventory control of the Bureau of Training and Education's electronic training and communications equipment. Functions as the liaison between the Bureau of Training and Education personnel/operations, centralized technical staff, and vendors for all matters pertaining to IT/telecommunications.

Description of Duties:

Troubleshoots and maintains computer hardware and software for the Bureau of Training and Education, such as computer monitors, keyboards, input devices, hard drives, printers, Wi-Fi or ethernet connectivity, EN Network software, Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft OneDrive, CLEAN, TRACS, MRE, MDT, RMS, Instructure Canvas, BrightAuthor by BrightSign, and the current Mobile Video Recorder. Inspects equipment, ensuring proper installation of software and troubleshooting problems regarding network connectivity. Performs maintenance work or contacts centralized IT staff or vendors and arranges for appropriate repairs. Conducts periodic inventory of all computers and related equipment.

Troubleshoots and maintains cadet laptops and keeps current inventory of same. Ensures return/repair/replacement or cadet laptops when damaged. Issues laptops to incoming cadet classes and accepts returns of laptops from outgoing cadet classes. Ensures that returned laptops and functional, not damaged, sanitized, and staged for re-issue with all peripheral components included. Maintains a log of repairs performed to cadet laptops by him or by an outside entity.

Troubleshoots and maintains training equipment and audio/visual systems, including laptops, Smartboards, multimedia projectors, audio/visual systems, audio equipment, e.g., amplifiers and speakers, DVD players, VHS players, and document cameras. Performs maintenance work or contacts centralized IT staff or vendors and arranges for appropriate repairs. Conducts periodic inventory of all training equipment.

Troubleshoots and maintains the Mobile Video Recorder system by diagnosing Wi-Fi connectivity problems, reporting problems to the contractor and arranging for appropriate repairs. Monitors the returned equipment to assure the outage is repaired promptly and in compliance with the agreement.

Troubleshoots and maintains VOIP telephone and voice mail systems by diagnosing system outages and notifying the appropriate repair service, obtaining replacement telephones and components from the Communications Division and replacing defective equipment.

Troubleshoots and maintains the radio system, including portable radios, desktop radios, suitcase radios, and car radios by diagnosing problems and reporting same to radio contractor for repair.

Instructs personnel in the operation of computers and computer-related training equipment, including assisting with initial computer class orientation for Cadets, instructing guest lecturers in the operation of the training equipment, developing courses, lectures, presentations, on-the-job training, preparing audio-visuals and delivering training. Prepares correspondence relative to computer-related training equipment, prepared inventories, reports, and files, communicates with vendors by mail or telephone, and oversees the electronic mail function.

Remains up to date on current IT policies, practices, and equipment. Continuously evaluates the IT needs of the Bureau and recommends updates to procedures or equipment to the Media Unit Supervisor. Completes Purchase Requests / Agency Requisitions for equipment, as needed, and submits to the Media Unit Supervisor for review.

Performs other related duties as assigned, to include those outlined in the Department's CoG Plan when the Plan is activated. Responds to the designated alternate or secondary location when directed in response to a catastrophic incident.

Work in this Unit will require considerable independence within standard operating procedures; however, direction and supervision is provided by the Supervisor, Media Unit by verbal or written communication. Additional assistance or direction is given on an as needed basis. Direction and review for special assignments will be provided as the assignment/project progresses.
