Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. An employee occupying this position performs skilled plumbing work at the journeyman/craftsmen level in installations, repairs, and maintenance to plumbing and heating systems and equipment under the direct supervision of the Plumber Supervisor, in accordance with standard practices of the plumbing trade. Works from written and oral orders, blueprints, and sketches. Displays considerable knowledge of tools, materials, methods, and safety precautions. Is able to design and estimate costs and times for repairs. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. 1. Determines materials, sequence of tasks, and work methods needed for installation, repair, replacement, and maintenance assignments. 2. Performs maintenance and repair duties on a wide variety of plumbing and piping components in building equipment, such as heating, ventilating, and kitchen appliances, water softeners and filters, and heat exchangers. 3. Assembles pipe sections, tubing, or fittings using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, or caulking; or soldering, brazing, or welding processes. 4. Measures, cuts, threads, or bends pipe to required angles using hand or power tools and machines. 5. Installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and reassembles plumbing fittings and fixtures, such as drains, catch basins, toilets, urinals, sinks, showers, and radiators. 6. Installs and repairs steam generators, autoclaves, and sterilizers. 7. Tests and monitors pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks. 8. Performs inspections and maintenance on valve and meter boxes, septic tanks, cesspools, and utility storage areas, such as mechanical rooms, tunnels, and manholes. 9. Replaces, connects, and maintains drain lines, water lines, underground water mains, service lines, and sewage lines. 10. Repairs water main breaks, including locating and troubleshooting issues, sanitizing lines, and testing pressure, according to American Water Works Association rules and Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) regulations. 11. Maintains, repairs, rebuilds, and replaces fire hydrants and water valves. 12. Demonstrates and provides instruction to other trades and maintenance employees on plumbing and pipefitting related tasks. 13. Operates motor vehicles. 14. Performs related work as required. |
