Position Purpose:

This is a trainee position is responsible for providing skilled labor and regulatory compliance in the operation and maintenance of the potable water treatment, storage, and distribution systems at Shawnee State Park, under the direction of the supervisor. This position performs in a seven (7) day a week operation and may be scheduled to work weekends, evenings, and holidays

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Employee in this class participates in the operation, maintenance and regulatory compliance of a complex water treatment filtration system which utilizes a surface water intake to supply potable water to Shawnee State Park. Employees in this class participate in in-service, out-service and on-the-job training programs designed to provide water treatment filter plant operation and plumbing knowledge, skills and abilities. Assignments are designed to provide progressively responsible experience in operating and maintaining motors, pumps, water softeners, chemical feeders, chlorinators, membrane filters, flow recorders, controllers and related equipment used in water treatment filter plants.

Employee is responsible for the safe and compliant operation and maintenance of the water treatment and distribution systems at Shawnee State Park. Employee will serve as backup operator for wastewater treatment plant.

Follows and updates standard operating procedures related to all aspects of drinking water system.

Assists in taking water samples and running chemical tests; assists in the testing of the distribution system for leakage and stoppage.

Assists in the routine inspection and maintenance of plant equipment.

Assists in preparing plant operation, maintenance, and testing records. With assistance from supervisor, completes all necessary reports, testing, and sampling required for proper operation of water treatment system per DEP requirements.

Conduct and submit routine water sampling of swimming area.

Inspects and cleans all well houses, water storage, spring houses, and water pumping stations.

Assists in repairing breaks in distribution lines, interior plumbing of all park buildings, winterizing and de-winterizing plumbing fixtures in seasonal park buildings.

Employee serves as backup operator for wastewater treatment plant when WWTPCO is unavailable.

Operates Commonwealth owned motorized vehicles as necessary.

Ensures assigned equipment and work areas are maintained in a clean, neat, and orderly condition.

Other duties at the direction of the maintenance supervisor include but are not limited to, cuts grass, trims hedges, and performs additional groundskeeping duties at water treatment plant and other areas of park as required, taking inventory of supplies, maintain parks grounds and facilities, operating equipment, cleaning, basic carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, snow removal, and tree cutting/clean up.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Within one year of employment obtain necessary water operator licenses through the Department of Environmental Protection:
WATER - class D, E subclass 6, 8, 12 and 13

Employee works independently to maintain drinking water systems. Work is assigned in the form of oral or written instructions and is reviewed by supervisor while in progress and on completion for quality, technical development and proper application of established principles and practices. As needed, regulatory decisions and processes will be discussed with Park Maintenance Supervisor, backup operator or Park Manager if supervisor in unavailable.

Receives both oral and written instruction from Park Maintenance Supervisor related to the operation and repairs to the water treatment filtration plant, storage, and distribution systems of Shawnee State Park.
