Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Repair, service, inspect, and maintain Hickory Run/Lehigh Gorge/Nescopeck State Park complex vehicles, which include cars, trucks, tractors, heavy and light equipment including mowers, backhoe, tractors, skid-steer, chain saws, plows, cement mixer, brush saws, generators, leaf blowers, snowmobiles, trail groomers, etc. Also included in this work is Park Regional swing equipment based at Hickory Run State Park, including a crawler-loader, dozer, roller and grader.

This position performs duties that are routinely executed seven days a week, and will be routinely scheduled to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed for park operations and to meet the needs of the park based on seasonal usage.

Description of Duties:

This position performs skilled, journeyman level work in the maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of diesel powered vehicles, and heavy construction equipment assigned to both Hickory Run State Park Complex, and the Region 4 Regional Swing Crew. This position is also responsible for the maintenance, and repair of the park's gasoline vehicle fleet and may be required to assist other parks with the diagnostics, and repair of their vehicles and equipment, both diesel and gasoline.

The works includes, but is not limited to preventative maintenance of vehicles, complete tune-ups, engine overhauls, repair and replace shock absorbers, repair and replace clutches, replace brake linings, rebuild wheel cylinders, repair and replace master cylinders, service transmissions, make minor repairs to radiators, starters and alternators, remove radiators, starters and alternators for outside shop repair, repair hydraulic systems on heavy equipment, check all highway vehicles and then make any repairs necessary to comply with state inspection requirements. Utilizes code scanner and shop key to diagnose and repair vehicles.

Make body repairs, change batteries, make repairs to battery cables and terminals, change tires, repair tires and tubes, balance wheels, repair wiring, repair and replace lights, lubricate, change oil and filters and hydraulic filters and screens, clean up vehicles, check antifreeze and winterize all vehicles and equipment.

Keep all records and reports of repairs, servicing and maintenance work done to all vehicles and equipment, sends work orders to DGS of work completed. Prepare list of all parts needed to make repairs, obtain bids for major repairs & submit to DGS, purchase repair parts. Keep current key inventory for all vehicles. Does electric and acetylene welding to vehicles, heavy and light equipment, and all other park facilities, lays out and cuts metal for various jobs using acetylene cutting torch.

This position requires valid PA Safety and Emissions Inspection licenses. Performing PA Safety and Emissions vehicle inspections will be one of the required duties of this position.

Operates light and heavy vehicles and equipment as required.

Performs other work as required/assigned.
