Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. The employee in this position oversees the operations of the Transportation and Groundskeeping Department at Selinsgrove Center. This includes supervision of the maintenance and repair of a fleet of Commonwealth automotive vehicles, buses, trucks, construction equipment, and related parts. The supervisor plans and manages a comprehensive preventative maintenance program to ensure maximum operating efficiency and safety of all equipment. The position requires the operation of equipment that necessitates a Commercial Driver’s License, including 44‑passenger buses and trucks with a gross vehicle weight rating exceeding 26,001 pounds. Additional duties include ensuring compliance with all vehicle policies and procedures established by D.G.S., D.P.W., O.D.P., and Selinsgrove Center. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Supervises, plans, assigns, and inspects the work of mechanics, equipment operators, garage workers, and groundskeeping personnel. Assures that changes to schedules are implemented, emergencies are handled, and provisions of the union contracts are followed particularly in regard to work assignments and equalization of overtime. Conducts road tests of vehicles and equipment in order to diagnose defects and to ensure quality control. Oversees and provides instruction for a comprehensive preventive maintenance program on automotive vehicles, equipment, and parts. Supervises and conducts official state inspections for safety and emissions on vehicles; performs repairs to ensure compliance with specifications; road tests vehicles; fills out inspection stickers and affixes to vehicles; and completes state inspection records and related inspection paperwork. Investigates and prepares accident reports involving automotive, construction, and groundskeeping equipment. Requests shop-related maintenance items, such as sanding disks, air tools, drop lights, etc., and maintains adequate inventory to ensure project schedules are met. Prepares and reviews automotive records and reports and maintains project files. keeps the Facility Maintenance Managers informed of delays, significant concerns, or operational issues affecting the Transportation Department. Performs the full range of supervisory duties. An employee in this job may participate in the performance of their subordinates’ work consistent with operational or organizational requirements. Performs related work as required. |
