Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. 20% Receives calls for service and information from the general public, other police jurisdictions, the news media, and other authorized agencies regarding crimes, police emergencies, vehicular accidents, traffic problems, criminal/traffic laws, etc. Obtain and record all information relative to incoming calls. 35% Dispatches messages to nearest troop response units and to other proper authorities. Monitors and coordinates communications amongst assigned units. Provides replies to information inquiries regarding state police services, road weather conditions, wanted/missing persons, automobiles, firearms, registrations, etc. Requests towing, fire, and ambulance services from local providers. Maintains accurate computer and written records of all actions taken in response to calls for service. 15% Assists the public at information desk with accident reports, complaints, information requests, and the completion of forms. Answers questions and when necessary, furnishes proper directions/forms. 10% Maintains files, supplies, and organization in communications room and lobby, and performs basic clerical duties in support of the Communications Unit. Maintains cleanliness of Communications Room during their assigned shift. 5% Reviews changes to traffic, criminal, and Department regulations by reading correspondence and attending training and meetings 5% Assists in the training of other department personnel assigned communications desk duties on proper procedures and practices. 5% Briefs the relief-shift supervisor and communications desk personnel of significant activities of prior shift and all active incidents. 5% Performs other related duties as required. Requirements Profile: 1. Possession of a clear, firm voice and no speech, hearing, or visual impairments that would interfere with being understood, understanding incoming communications, or using communications equipment. 2. Possession of Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network Certification and Police Communications Operator Certification, or the attainment of these certifications, during the probationary period. |
