Position Purpose:

This is professional work in the development and presentation of environmental education, interpretation and outdoor recreation programs at Jacobsburg Environmental Education Center.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Plans, develops, coordinates and presents environmental and historical education and interpretive programs and outdoor recreational activities at Jacobsburg Environmental Education Center.

Facilitates environmental and historical education and interpretive activities by conducting discovery learning activities, audiovisual presentations, teacher workshops, and other environmental and historical learning programs.

Provides assistance to educational institutions, civic groups, and public and private organizations in developing and implementing environmental and historical education and interpretive programs, teacher in-service workshops, and curriculum development.

Operates and maintains resource libraries.

Assists the Center's Volunteer Program.

Coordinates the use, repair, and maintenance of environmental education, interpretive, and outdoor recreation equipment. Coordinates the use, repair, and maintenance of indoor and outdoor educational facilities.

Facilitates environmental learning activities using established lesson plans and state education standards including but not limited to Bureau of State Park lesson plans, Better Environmental Education, Teaching, Learning & Expertise Sharing (BEETLES), Outdoor Biological Instructional Strategies, U.S. Forest Service's Investigating Your Environment, Bureau of State Park's Activities for Environmental Learning, Pennsylvania Land Choices, PA Fish & Boat Commission’s, PA Amphibians & Reptiles, Vermont Institute of Natural Science, Sharing Nature With Children, Project Wild, Project Learning Tree, and National Wildlife Federation's Naturescope series.

Implements Bureau of State Park’s Watershed Education Program for teachers and students from local schools. Submits proposals for Environmental Education fund monies made available through the OPS Division and coordinates purchases and submits invoices to clerical staff and or Manager.

Schedules programs and prepares lesson plans using the Bureau approved format and submits required reports on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis.

Maintains natural, historic, cultural, and archeological collections.

Assists in researching and developing educational publications and exhibits.

Develops and presents localized special activities for park visitors and environmental historical and interpretive programs focusing on localized natural history, historic and cultural events, and environmental management issues for students, youth groups, special populations, civic organizations, and others.

Facilitates guided walks and presents audiovisual programs.

Prepares letters, memoranda, correspondence, reports, lesson plans and other written materials.

Maintains the cleanliness and organization of personal workspace. Maintains the cleanliness and organization of shared office space, bathrooms, and break rooms.

Travels to various work locations.

Wears and maintains proper uniform.

Performs related work as required.
