Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This is a working supervisory position. Supervisors will be expected to perform all lifeguard functions, as well as supervisory responsibilities. The lifeguard supervisor schedule will be established by the park manager.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Patrols, observes, directs, and monitors activities in the Ryerson Station State Park Pool Complex from stations on the pool deck or from stations on/in the water to maintain order and to minimize the threat to swimmers and other park patrons from accidents or drowning.

Ensures compliance with the Bureau of State Parks' swimming rules and regulations following prescribed guidelines and procedures. Provides assistance to park patrons and explains park rules and regulations.

Recognizes when swimmers are in distress or need assistance and rescues them using accepted lifesaving techniques.

Remains alert at all times at assigned post. Scans the swimming area to prevent accidents and is prepared to respond to visitors in the event of an emergency.

Informs Park Manager of all rescues, accidents or incidents immediately. Reports to and summons help as deemed necessary to event. Completes administrative duty of incident report promptly, thoroughly and legibly upon completion of event.

Administers first aid, artificial respiration and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), including adult, infant, and child CPR, to injured park visitors in need.

Inspects the condition of buoys, floats, ropes, first aid equipment and supplies, and any other safety equipment to ensure it is in proper operating condition.

Inspects swimming areas by checking for unsafe conditions to ensure they are safe for public use and reports any issues or concerns appropriately.

Keeps inventory of safety and first aid equipment and supplies and reports any needs to the Park Manager.

Prepares and submits written reports and documents outlining swimming conditions, activities, incidents, and timekeeping. Completes necessary forms and ensures that they are turned into the park manager. Administrative duty of report completion is done promptly, thoroughly and legibly.

Retain a detailed knowledge of the DCNR Lifeguard Manual and be able to interpret it to subordinates.

Participates in orientation and training sessions for Lifeguard Supervisors. Conducts orientation and training session to subordinates. Trainings may include review the Bureau of State Parks policy and procedures, lifesaving and water safety practices, methods, and techniques, and to renew required swimming and/or first aid and CPR certificates.

Participates in the operation of a swimming pool by taking water samples, reading meters, and recording information, reporting the need for chemicals and adjustments, and reporting malfunctions or breakdowns appropriately.

Performs basic maintenance and custodial duties at a swimming area to ensure it is safe for public use. Daily work may include but is not limited to cleaning/inspecting bathhouses, litter pickup around pool complex, and vacuuming/scrubbing pool.

Ensure subordinates are completing their job duties and that the lifeguard station is clean and organized at all times. Maintain lifeguard equipment to ensure it is in working condition.

Create work schedules and complete Employee Performance Reviews for subordinates.

Operate portable radios using established radio procedures.

Performs related work as required.

Your prime area of responsibility is training, scheduling, supervising, and motivating lifeguards. This is a take-charge position. Lifeguard Supervisors will operate the swimming pool in the most economical and efficient means by utilizing the minimum number of lifeguards to safely operate the pool, administration of first aid, daily training and inspections, completion of the daily swim log, and the complete operation of the pool area will be your responsibility excluding filtration and chemicals.
