Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Provides maintenance, repair, and janitorial support in and around the facility and also directs an assigned inmate work crew in the performance of such duties.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Provides care, custody, and control and maintains order and discipline among inmate workers.

Searches inmates and work areas for contraband and ensures the security of the work area.

Performs and oversees inmates in the performance of routine construction and maintenance work where required. This includes maintenance of grounds and buildings; operation and maintenance of vehicles, lawn mowers, lawn tractors, snow blowers, snow plows and other snow removal, weed trimmers, and related equipment; care of lawns, shrubs, trees, and flower beds on a year round basis including fertilizing, liming, cutting, edging, raking, pruning as required, clearing, and grubbing; performing snow removal (manual and mechanized) and maintenance and repairs on roads; moving and configuring office furniture; installing carpet and flooring; and completing the daily trash collection, recycling, mopping, dusting, scrubbing, polishing, and other aseptic cleaning duties.

Provides contractor escort functions including compliance with all DOC security requirements pertaining to contractor restrictions and activities.

Performs, assists with, and/or directs the work of an inmate crew in one or more of the automotive, carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, electronic, roofing, refrigeration, masonry, plastering, steam-fitting, welding, or machinery mechanics trades.

Issues and collects tools, supplies, and materials required by inmate workers. Directs the care, cleaning, and proper maintenance of all tools and equipment assigned to the detail; requisitions supplies, materials, and equipment; and estimates the amount of material, tools, and time required for a job.

Obtains training in the proper operation and maintenance of tools and equipment prior to their operation. Participates in equipment and maintenance training and cross training of staff.

Keeps maintenance and repair records, training progress, wage, attendance, and other related records.

Directs Community Work Programs (CWP), as required.

Submits Weekly Tool Report, Weekly Maintenance Work Report, and other required reports to the maintenance office.

Identifies and resolves safety hazards to ensure that job safety is practiced at all times.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Unusual assignments or difficult situations are discussed with the incumbent’s supervisor or higher level maintenance staff prior to implementation.
