Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This is a working supervisory level position in a large state park responsible for the supervision of approximately 10 salaried and 16 wage employees, depending on the time of year. This position supervises the work activities of several crews engaged in maintenance and construction projects. This position is responsible for the maintenance of all buildings, roads, equipment, and facilities in order to provide the park visitor with a pleasant recreational experience. This position works in coordination and cooperation with the Park Maintenance Supervisor 1. This position receives supervision from the park managers. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Assures that all various maintenance related duties are accomplished in the park in order to provide park visitors with a safe and enjoyable recreational experience. Prepares material and supply lists for all routine maintenance work and major maintenance projects. Assigns work to subordinates verbally and/or in writing in order to accomplish tasks necessary for the park’s efficient operation. Reviews all subordinates work on a daily basis by physically looking at work sites in order to be sure work is being done according to assignments. Prepares work schedules two weeks in advance for employees by writing in times, dates, and work locations and posts the schedules. Monitors schedules to control overtime. Appraises all employees under their supervision and prepares performance evaluations. Evaluations are done annually and reviewed with the subordinates by the required due date. Updates employee job descriptions as required. Monitors the budgetary status of various maintenance projects before authorizing additional financial spending. Reviews the work of project contractors and verifies with blueprints and specifications of the project. Keeps time sheets daily on all employees under their supervision. Presents time sheet to payroll clerk along with all requests for leave. Tracks work hours eligible for Growing Greener funding. Instructs subordinates in the use of tools and is responsible for seeing that all safety standards are adhered to. Assist with safety programs on a regular basis for the maintenance staff, and serves on the park safety committee. Serves as the park Safety Officer. Listens to and deals with any discussions or complaints that could lead to an eventual grievance. Collects Monthly Automotive Activity Reports for all vehicles and equipment and submits these reports to the park office the first day of each month. Inspects reports for completeness. Checks all supplies delivered to the park by counting numbers and quality of items. Inventories supplies when requested by physical observation and coordinates purchases. Maintains effective and efficient communications with employees under their supervision, supervisors and other work units. Counsels and imposes disciplinary action either oral or in writing against subordinates when required. Assist management by suggesting work and obtaining supplies for individuals designated to work at the park under special programs such as State Correctional Institute, and volunteers. Assists park managers with job interviews and hiring decisions. Makes routine inspections of all buildings to make sure they are always sanitary, clean and safe and all items are stored in their proper location. Inspects all equipment and vehicles to make sure all preventive maintenance is being performed, repairs are made for safe operation, and state inspections are done as required by law. Conducts a safety/maintenance checklist for all facilities once a year. Assists with management of the park herbicide/pesticide program to include reporting and ordering of materials as needed. Monitors the park CDL staff and assists park manager in coordinating the CDL program. Stays current on CDL policies and procedures. Supervises water treatment plant operations. Conducts hazardous tree evaluations according to Bureau policy. Assures that appropriate corrective action is taken. Performs a variety of computer tasks to maintain maintenance records and infrastructure programs. Performs a variety of related duties as required in order to accomplish an efficient and safe operation. |
