Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Supervisory position responsible for directing and coordinating the garage, grounds, and transportation functions under the direction of the Facility Operations Manager.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Plans and directs maintenance and repairs of vehicles and equipment by adherence to manufacturer's specifications in order to keep all vehicles and equipment in a safe operating condition.

Plans, assigns, and inspects the work of mechanics, equipment operators, garage workers, and grounds personnel.

Conducts road tests of vehicles and equipment in order to diagnose defects and to
ensure quality control.

Maintains campus roads, parking lots, and grounds which includes lawn care, pruning, weeding, fertilizing, planting, leaf removal, paving, snow removal, etc.

Provides needed labor to load/unload trucks, move supplies/materials, furniture, etc., as well as assisting other Maintenance shops in various tasks when necessary.

Oversees a comprehensive preventive maintenance program on automotive vehicles and equipment to insure maximum operating efficiency of all equipment.

Supervises and performs, if needed, official state inspections for safety and emissions on vehicles; performs repairs to ensure compliance with specifications; road tests vehicles; and completes state inspection records and related inspection paperwork.

Investigates and prepares accident reports involving automotive, construction, and
grounds keeping equipment.

Oversees the scheduling of vehicles and construction equipment for use by staff.

Ensures proper sanitation and cleanliness of: vehicles used for food and laundry
services, storage buildings and facilities, and garages.

Initiates all parts and supplies orders needed for all equipment in fleet by ordering all gasoline, diesel fuel, motor oil, grease, tires, and batteries and repair parts required for all hospital motorized vehicles.

Makes recommendations for replacement/disposal of unserviceable and/or not inspectable vehicles. Informs supervisor of specific equipment needs or problems so that future requirements can be projected.

Maintains an inventory of parts and supplies in order to have sufficient stock available for regular and ordinary maintenance and repairs.

Dispatches vehicles and equipment to job sites or designated operators to support the transportation and maintenance requirements of the facility.

Maintains complete records on all assigned vehicles and equipment. Maintain all necessary records in conjunction with automotive services, preventative maintenance, inventory, etc.

Ensures training programs are in place for Garage/Transportation/Grounds staff on safety, operation, and maintenance of automotive, construction and grounds equipment.

Performs the full range of supervisory duties.

An employee in this job will participate in the performance of their subordinates’
work consistent with operational or organizational requirements.

Responsible for garage area, inspection of overhead doors, air compressors, and maintaining tool crib of complete mechanic hand tools for all maintenance personnel by random inspections, in order to keep garage in a clean and safe working environment.

Prepares and reviews automotive records and reports, and maintains project files.

Provide effective communication to Facility Operations Manager on all work functions and assignments as required.

Performs related work as required.

Essential Functions

 1. Performs supervisory work in automotive and equipment repair as well as construction and grounds work; works independently.
 2. Receives assignments orally and from work orders; records time and material used on work performed.
 3. Identifies defects in motorized equipment, automobiles and hospital grounds and makes appropriate repairs and work assignments.
 4. Directs the use and care of hand tools, shop tools, and equipment needed to accomplish trades work.
 5. Recognizes occupational hazards and follows safety precautions; insures employees follow safety precautions.
 6. Interprets and works from sketches and diagrams. Performs layout work.
 7. Communicates with other Supervisors and Facility Maintenance Managers.
 8. Works cooperatively with other Maintenance staff.
 9. Inspect and evaluate work performed by subordinates.
 10. Ability to lift and move heavy objects and work under adverse weather conditions.
