Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Performs a variety of skilled duties relating to the planning, coordinating, installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical wiring, electrical distribution equipment and electrical components within the Capitol Complex, Harrisburg Annex, Reading Office Bldg., Scranton Office Bldg., and outlying Harrisburg buildings.

Description of Duties:

Performs the full range of journeyman electrical duties including the planning, coordinating, performance and accountability of assigned work activities relating to the installation and maintenance of electrical items such as wiring, panel boards, service equipment, circuit breakers, transfer switches, feeders, indoor and outdoor lighting, multi-wire branch circuits, single and polyphase controls, electric valves, motors and motor controls, ventilating fans, heaters, compressors, electric steam boilers, solenoids, relays, transformers, modular furniture electric distribution, building automation systems and other electrical equipment.

Maintains a current working knowledge of the National Electrical Code standards.

Pinpoints and corrects power failures and short circuits.

Review and analyze requested location for EV charging stations. Assess location and determines feasibility of existing electric circuitry. Creates level 2 drawing of proposed location for UCC approval to include but not limited to circuit location, wire size, charging units, and pathway to desired location. In addition, will need to create material lists, project overtime work hours for project completion and inspection.

Responsible for effective utilization of volt-ohm-milliamp meter, amprobe, megger and other electrical meters and devices in day-to-day performance of assigned electrical work.

Follows blueprints, drawing specifications and layout sketches for manpower and material requirements to prepare the paperwork for UCC submission of a Level 1 or 2 permit. Also plans and coordinates efforts with other tradesmen and department coordinators for projects to run consecutively.

Carries, erects and works from ladders, scaffolding, and manlifts to heights of 40 feet. Is accustomed to working with safety equipment such as a harness and safety belt.

Responsible for layout and performance of work relating to measuring, cutting, threading, bending, assembly and installation of ½ inch thru 4-inch steel conduit.

Functions as a lead worker over Electrician Trainees, Electrician 1’s, and other helpers assisting in various phases of work by assigning work, providing assistance, and reviewing the work for adherence to standards. Assist with the proper training of the Electrician Trainees during their 4 year training to prepare them to take their journeyman’s license test.

Plans, coordinates (with multiple trades) and executes partition mods as required. To include attending initial project meeting with requesting agency and shop foreman, all necessary research and data gathering of supporting details for the project (identifying circuitry, COM check, lighting requirements per UCC code and a complete material list). Noting all potential problems and requirements on the initial drawing to be submitted to the foreman for processing.

Shovels and removes snow and ice from entrances, walkways, steps, etc. Spreads rock salt, calcium, sand or other deicing agents, and operates spreaders and snow blowers.

Drives to various locations throughout the Capitol Complex and other state owned or leased buildings.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Selects the proper tools, equipment, and supplies, and decides the appropriate course of action required for each assignment always being aware of job hazards & safety measures. Will serve as a lead work over lower class electricians and trainees and will assist with the trainees apprenticeship readiness. Requests and receives guidance from the supervisor on unusual situations.
