Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Responsible for maintenance & repairs to park buildings, facilities, structures & grounds utilizing a variety of power tools and equipment including mowers, brush cutters, chain saws, tractors, high lifts, stump cutters and other specialized equipment. This requires a variety of skills including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, welding and burning roofing, cement work, masonry, painting, small & large engine repairs, and mechanical repairs, fire fighting and equipment, ice and snow removal sidewalks and roads, water and sewage, janitorial work, custodial cleaning restrooms and teaching areas.








Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Construct from blueprints, & diagrams - buildings, roads, foot & culvert bridges, drain systems, fences, walkways, fountains, pavilions, gates, signs benches, landscaping, educational displays, concrete floor, foundations and floors, and other park facilities, & structures.

Serve as lead worker for seasonal bureau employees, community work experience crews, Special Project Crews, individual volunteers, and volunteer crews while performing maintenance and facility improvement duties.

Maintain records of hours spent and work completed by individual employees and/or work crews.

Set task priorities and evaluate projects during and upon completion.
Responsible for keeping automotive and gasoline records, records of equipment maintenance, etc.

Also responsible for refining blue prints, developing lists for projects, drawing rough sketches, preparing bid material proposals, acquiring prices, and purchasing materials.

Responsible for keeping inventories of materials and equipment.

Description of work performed continues:

Maintains tools and equipment in safe and operational condition.
1. Develops and maintains a schedule for oil changes, inspections
2. Completes oil changes and minor vehicle/equipment repair and body work
3. Schedule and acts as point of contact for outsourced vehicle/equipment repair and body work

Inventories and controls commodities and supplies used in maintenance and repairs.

1. Develops a schedule for inventorying and acquiring consumable materials. Works with park AA to acquire – paper towels, toilet paper, urinal blocks, cleaning solutions, cleaning equipment etc.
2. Develops a schedule for inventorying and acquiring materials and supplies. Works with park AA to acquire – fasteners, herbicide, dimensional lumber, plumbing repair supplies, electrical repair supplies, fuel filters, furnace filters etc.
Maintain the park’s facilities and infrastructure including park office, education center classroom, restroom facilities, septic system, pavilion etc. Serve as lead worker by meeting with Center Manager to plan work, acquire tools and materials needed for activities, develop schedule of activities, direct seasonal bureau employee and volunteers and facilitate activities which include but are not limited to:
1. Installs maintains/repairs roof systems (asphalt, steel, wood shake), including underlayment, felt, drip edge, ice guard, ridge vents, ridge cap, flashing etc.
2. Installs/maintains/repairs water pumps, sewage pumps, filters, water lines, waste lines, drinking fountains; maintains UV lights for water treatment;
3. Installs/repairs/replaces electrical systems including circuit breakers, electric lines, outlets , lights and switches;
4. Maintains HVAC system including filters, monitor fuel levels, baseboard heater replacement/repair;
5. Replaces/repairs/installs doors and windows;
6. Performs masonry work including constructing forms for concrete and pouring concrete for sidewalks, floors, pads and laying block for foundations and laying stone for decorative walls and retaining walls
7. Coordinates and conducts mowing, trimming, seeding and other landscaping activities to meet the specification provided by Center Manager
8. Removes snow, ice, leaves and other debris from roadways and sidewalks
9. Coordinates cleaning of carpets, bathrooms, offices to compliment center schedule of programs and events
Maintain the park trail system by identifying areas of needed improvement, acquiring materials needed for trail improvement, serve as lead worker to plan facilitation of improvements and conduct improvement project which may include, but would not be limited to:
1. Construction/repair of foot bridges, drains, water diversion devices, retaining walls and trail surface matrix materials.
2. Fabricate and install wood routed trail signs
3. Removal of fallen/hazardous trees using a chainsaw

Maintain the park’s unique prairie ecosystem. Serve as lead worker by meeting with Center Manager to plan work, acquire tools and materials needed for activities, develop schedule of activities, direct seasonal bureau employee and volunteers and facilitate activities which include but are not limited to:
1. Organize, maintain and mobilize equipment for prescribed fire including torches, backpack tanks etc.
2. Be primary igniter for fire under the direction of a Burn Boss and Center Manager;
3. Remove brush using a variety of tools and equipment
4. Apply herbicide to unwanted plant species as directed by Center Manager

Maintain the park’s abandoned mine drainage passive treatment system. Serve as lead worker by meeting with Center Manager to plan work, acquire tools and materials needed for activities, develop schedule of activities, direct seasonal bureau employee and volunteers and facilitate activities which include but are not limited to:
1. Monitor and maintain acceptable water levels in ponds and wetlands
2. Clear drains and adjust flows over spillways, weirs etc.
3. Monitor for invasive plants and control when necessary
4. Installs/maintains/repairs valves, pipes and gauges

Serve as the Safety Officer and Right to Know Coordinator to ensure that Right to Know Employee workplace notice is posted prominently in the workplace at a location(s) where employee notices are normally posted;
1. complete a Hazardous Substance Survey Form by April 1 of each year which inventories hazardous substance found in the workplace during the prior calendar year;
2. must obtain and keep an updated file system or three ring binder of all Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for hazardous substances found in the workplace;
3. ensure that all containers and ports of pipelines in the workplace that contain hazardous substance are properly labeled so employees can easily identify the contents;
4. ensure that annual right to know training is conducted for salaried and wage employees and that training is properly documented.

Determines best way to accomplish assigned tasks. Performs preventative maintenance and minor repair work to equipment. Perform safety checks on equipment prior to operation and determines if equipment is operationally sound. As crewleader assigns work to other maintenance personnel and volunteers as required. Determines parts and supplies as needed.
