Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. Provides technical assistance in the field for the Division of Forest Health. Conducts aerial and ground surveys as required. Assists in direct suppression, biocontrol, trapping and sampling as required. Establishes field study plots as required. Collects and summarizes field data in electronic format. Prepares written reports as required. Candidate usually works a 4-day week (37.5 hrs.). |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Assists in the control of forest diseases, insects, and invasive plants; conducts aerial and ground surveys and prepares maps. Assists in the development, implementation and reporting of statewide experimental projects. and assists in the conduct of experimental projects. Performs pre-flight activities to support successful aerial surveys including coordination of activities with District staff and pilot. Establishes monitoring sites, deploys traps, regularly inspects and maintains traps and summarizes monitoring results. Prepares a variety of reports and records. Assists with other activities as required. |

Example: In response to a customer inquiry, this work involves researching the status of an activity and preparing a formal response for the supervisor’s signature. Preparation and coordination of aerial survey flights within established guidelines in order to meet survey and other project work completion requirements. Determine locations for various field surveys and ground-truthing of aerial survey damage polygons with assistance from Division and District staff. Ability to set up and maintain permanent field plots. |
