Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Is responsible and accountable for preparing appetizing, nutritionally adequate meals for consumers in support of the overall departmental goals of maintaining a safe, clean, pleasant dining environment for consumers.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Performs food production duties following standardized recipes and daily menus by roasting meats, cooking vegetables, casseroles and soups, and preparing salads, desserts, sauces, beverages and special diet foods in order to meet nutritional needs of consumers. Prepares food items for distribution to cafeterias by labeling transportation containers and portioning foods into the designated containers according to distribution records in order to assure correct amounts of food on the daily menu are delivered to each cafeteria. Operates kitchen equipment, including convection ovens, steamers, grills, tilt fry pan, steam kettles, food choppers, mixers, grinders, meat slicer, scales, blenders and dishwashers by following posted operation instruction, in order to maintain safety and sanitation standards. Cleans all equipment, utensils, pots and pans, work surfaces, floors, walls and storage areas by using approved cleaning compounds and procedures in order to maintain sanitation standards. Performs food pre-preparation, storage, and delivery duties in the Ingredient Room when additional staff is needed by storing/removing from storage food and supply items, pre-portioning, shaping, slicing or grinding meats and cheeses, and preparing fresh fruits and vegetables in order to assure adequate labor coverage throughout the Department. Performs job duties in a safe manner by being familiar with safety rules and regulations in order to prevent accidents. Communicates information to co-workers, supervisors and dietitians verbally and by completing required written records in order to provide food high in quality, prevent food waste, and maintain established budget. Maintains a good attendance record by following hospital and departmental time and attendance policies and procedures in order to maintain adequate labor coverage in the Department. Performs other related duties, including attendance at meetings and in-services, special occasion food preparation and service, and assisting in cafeterias when needed by completing assignments made by supervisors and dietitians in order to assure a smooth, efficient operation of the Department.

Makes decision to notify the supervisor when food items are either unsafe or are of poor quality to serve to the consumers.
Makes decision to notify supervisor if food amounts are insufficient.
Plans daily work schedule to prepare foods in a timely manner to maintain quality and in appropriate quantities for consumer meals.
Rotates stock according to first in, first out policy.
*Obtains and maintains CPR Certification and utilize skills as necessary

Essential Functions
