Conforms to Standards of Professional Nursing, Gerontological Nursing Practice and Department of Education Standards established by accrediting bodies. Acts as a professional nursing consultant to nursing staff. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Working time percentages are approximate and can change on a daily basis due to operational needs. 50% •Assists in the development of continuing in-service education programs by assessing the needs of the nursing staff; by preparing lesson plans; and by compiling resource material in order to present learning experiences to the nursing personnel. •Presents educational programs to the nursing staff by conducting classes in elementary and advanced nursing arts, including care of residents, interaction with residents, sanitation of resident areas and equipment, documentation in the clinical record, administration of medications and treatments, sterilization of equipment, CPR, Reality Orientation, Behavior Management, Safety and Gerontology, as it applies to nursing service, in order to broaden the competencies of nursing personnel. •Develops orientation programs and assists in orienting all new nursing personnel; touring, interpreting, and instructing in the policies and procedures of the Center, and counseling as necessary. •Evaluates the effectiveness of the educational program by rounding on resident areas, observing implementation of nursing procedures; by discussing staff performance with supervisors, members of the Performance Improvement Committee, infection control nurse, and other pertinent staff members. Confers with pertinent staff members in maintaining adequate training records. •Is responsible for disseminating to the nursing staff pertinent knowledge gained at out-service seminars and workshops by utilizing information received at training sessions. •Supervises professional, sub-professional, and nonprofessional personnel during training and completion of new procedures. Completes the preparation and presentation of subject matter. Conveys information regarding new techniques, equipment and procedures to all levels of nursing personnel. •Develops in-service programs using resource personnel to present diversified material. Serves on committees as appointed. Conducts training sessions at other facilities as required. Assists with orienting and training of volunteers and non-nursing personnel as required. •Performs clinical record monitors as assigned. Acts as a resource person by researching audiovisual materials, reference materials, out-service training opportunities; by attending in-service and out-service educational programs as requested; by identifying institutional and regional educational resources; by collecting current health related resource material and preparing pertinent releases to the nursing personnel; by attending interdisciplinary team conferences; by developing standards for nursing education. •Maintains training goals and objectives for In-Service Department, reviewing periodically and updating as needed. Confers with Director of Nursing in formulating educational policies. Prepares reports of Nursing In-Service orientation and programs. Maintains orientation records on nursing personnel. 25% •Has direct responsibility for the development and implementation of the Center’s nurse aide training program. Ensures that the program meets all standards set forth by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. In this capacity, the Incumbent serves as the Facility's NATCEP Coordinator and is responsible for program administration; evaluation of faculty; and evaluation of program requirements (i.e., pass rates, advisory committee meetings; revisions to the program, and facilitation of on-site monitoring processes). •Maintains certificate of attendance of a "Teaching-The-Educator" program and certification for MANDT Instructor. As the Facility’s Primary NATCEP Instructor, the Employee initiates, facilitates and moderates classroom discussions from current NATCEP curriculum; prepares and delivers lectures to Nurse Aide students; prepares course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts; supervises students’ lab and clinical work; evaluates and grades students’ class work and clinical work; assesses clinical education needs; compiles, administers, grades examinations; maintains students’ attendance records, grades, instructor evaluations, and other required records. Attends meetings and seminars as required. •Performs other related duties as required. •The employee in this position must display the physical and mental abilities in performing the essential functions of the job description. 20% •Serves as chairperson of the Nursing Procedure Committee and serves on Infection Control Committee. Prepares, supervises, coordinates and assesses the implementation of resident teaching in selective appropriate clinical procedures following IDPOC/physician request and order. 5% •Periodic assignment to other shifts to accomplish training objectives. |
