Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Operates a variety of light and heavy construction and maintenance equipment on various types of projects under the responsibility of the Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation's Wilkes-Barre District Office.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Operate dozers, front end loaders, backhoes, excavators, skid steers, compactors, tractor-trailer combinations, dump trucks with and without tag-a-long trailers, pickup trucks, and any other similar vehicle and equipment necessary to construct small abandoned mine reclamation or other projects.

Operate the aforementioned vehicles and equipment to assist other commonwealth agencies on construction and maintenance projects.

Cleans and maintains department vehicles and equipment, fuels and greases machines, performs general maintenance and effects minor repairs.

Performs various types of manual work using power and hand tools, acetylene cutting torches and electric welding equipment as necessary to accomplish an assignment and when not operating equipment.

Assist mechanics in making repairs to equipment.

Possess a working knowledge of the applicable state laws pertaining to the operation of vehicles and equipment upon highways.

Maintains daily reports of equipment used and records hours of operation for vehicles and equipment.

Maintain records of equipment, supplies, and materials which arrive or leave the storage facility at the Franklin Warehouse.

Assist with the procurement of rental equipment, construction supplies or other items required to complete the assigned projects.

Assist the foreman and administrative officer in scheduling vehicles to be serviced or repaired. Obtain repair estimates for damaged vehicles.

Clean and transport vehicles and equipment to and from various locations for the District Office.

Promotes the Department’s mission.

Essential Functions

 1. Operate both light and heavy Equipment.
 2. Maintain and service vehicles and equipment and maintenance records.
 3. Perform minor repairs.
 4. Perform manual work, use power and hand tools as necessary and perform heavy lifting.
 5. Perform carpentry, masonry, plumbing, and metal fabrication work as necessary.
