Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This is semi-skilled manual work in the construction, maintenance and operation of state park property, equipment, and facilities. An employee in this class performs semi-skilled work alone or assists a skilled workman, or he may act as lead worker over a small crew performing routine tasks. Work involves the use of a large variety of construction and maintenance equipment and tools in many different tasks that frequently require the application of skills acquired on the job. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Makes repairs to buildings, equipment and facilities, uses tools of mechanical, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and other trades in the performance of maintenance work. Assists the park automotive mechanics, sewage treatment plant operators, carpenters, and/or maintenance repairmen with routine maintenance duties and major maintenance projects. Assists equipment operators in performing tasks to maintain park roads, grounds, equipment and facilities. Acts frequently as a lead worker over laborers, custodians, and other special program people to give them guidance and assure the work is performed to park policy. Performs custodial duties by cleaning and supplying restrooms, cabins and washhouses using various cleaning agents and power sprayers in order to provide a sanitary facility for park users. Collects litter and disposes of in appropriate receptacles. Drives a truck to haul men and materials to and from jobs; assists in performance of the job. Mows grass as needed to maintain turf areas, operates riding mowers, small tractors, push mowers and grass trimmers. Cuts brush and trees along roadways, trails, and main activity areas using chain saws, brush kings, and hand tools. Performs a variety of related duties as required in order to accomplish an efficient and safe operation. Prepares and paints the surfaces of various materials by sanding or scraping old finish and applying paint or stain using a power spray gun, roller, or brush to place a new finish on the surface. Maintains records on materials and equipment such as mileage, hours, gas, oil, etc. |
