Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This position is responsible for learning to conduct field audits of taxpayers to determine their compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Learn to conduct fair, equitable, and efficient audits in the sales and use tax, audit program to determine taxpayer compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Learn how to work at field audit sites, as needed, to facilitate audit efficiency.

Learn to perform preliminary audit planning.

Learn to research departmental records for tax reporting and audit history, as well as potential collateral assignments.

Learn to contact taxpayers or their authorized representatives to schedule audits in the most efficient communication method available.

Learn to conduct pre and post audit conferences with taxpayer’s representatives to explain audit procedures and findings and supporting laws/regulations and policies.

Learn to visually inspect taxpayers' facilities to ascertain business activities and limit of operations.

Learn to identify records required and design appropriate audit procedures in accordance with applicable tax manuals.

Learn to analyze pertinent books and financial records to determine correct tax liabilities or verify the accurate remittance of tax.

Learn to write narratives to document audit findings and explain/support audit procedures utilized and legal basis of assessments.

Learn to prepare and assemble schedules, work papers, audit forms, and written narratives into audit reports that are completed in accordance with applicable tax manuals and forwarded to the supervisor/lead auditor for review.

Learn how to respond to taxpayer questions and suggest changes in accounting procedures to properly report future tax liabilities.

Learn to inform taxpayers / representatives of appeal rights, timeframes, and procedures.

Assist supervisors or higher-level auditors in the conduct of their assignments to gain auditing experience and develop technical knowledge.

Attend formal/informal training sessions to learn tax laws, regulations and departmental policies and procedures.

Complete and file various administrative reports in accordance with Commonwealth, Departmental and Bureau policies.

Demonstrate a commitment to the service-oriented culture of the Department.

Apply Lean thinking in day-to-day tasks.

Be mindful of internal controls and risk management when changes are made to a process.

Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.

Perform related work as required.

Decision Making:

•Will determine taxpayer compliance with applicable laws and regulations with supervisor guidance.

•Will determine most effective communication method with each taxpayer.

•Will determine audit inventory needs & scheduling timeframes to maintain a full work schedule with supervisor guidance.
