Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This is technical public safety and public contact work in the field of state park operation and outdoor recreation at Bald Eagle State Park in order to promote the safe utilization of facilities within the park.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Greet visitors out in the park and at the park office and answer questions regarding park facilities, recreational and program schedules, park history and environmental features; provide pamphlets, maps, and brochures; explain park rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Collect funds and issue receipts using the reservation system software for campsites, pavilions, boat launch and/or mooring permits, etc.

Effectively use oral, written, and electronic communication.

Answer telephones and take professional messages.

Monitor park area by various motorized vehicles, watercraft, bicycle, and on foot.

Explain park rules, regulations, policies and procedures to park visitors and special interest groups. Inform Park Manager or DCNR Ranger if visitor actions require law enforcement actions.

Ability to operate State Park motor vehicles to patrol park grounds and boundaries.

Operate State Park watercraft; Ability to learn and apply water rescue techniques.

Monitor program, visitor, volunteer, and special interest groups utilizing the park.

Inspect marina docks on a weekly basis, or as needed, for compliance of mooring agreements, maintenance matters, and any noticeable problems concerning moored watercraft

Maintain bulletin boards and kiosks to ensure accurate and up to date information, cleanliness, and appearance; ensure park maps are stocked at various locations

Respond to emergency situations or requests for assistance from employees or visitors.

Operate a 2-way radio for communications.

Administer first aid, including artificial respiration and cardiopulmonary resuscitation to injured park visitors.

Assist in search and rescue operations to locate lost visitors on State Park grounds and boundaries.

Monitor security of park buildings and facilities.

Inspect buildings and park structures for safety hazards and cleanliness and take required corrective action; address minor maintenance issues and restock paper towels, toilet paper, etc. as needed.

Monitor campground reservations, check-in and check-out times, establish and maintain effective working relationships with campground host.

Prepare daily ranger reports.

Maintain a Lost and Found department and return lost items to state park visitors in accordance with Management Manual Section 1000.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisor, and the public.

Employee determines and addresses safety concerns within the park; answers questions from the public regarding the park’s features and activities; and recognizes and responds to emergency situations.
