Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This is skilled work in the operation of equipment and/or single chassis vehicles with a gross vehicle weight under 26,000 pounds used in the transport of personnel and materials, and/or construction, grounds and maintenance work. Also, performs equipment maintenance and other manual work related to the operation and maintenance of the Presque Isle and Erie Bluffs State Park complex. An employee in this class also performs manual work when not operating equipment. Work is assigned with instructions clearly outlining the scope of each project. However, little or no instructions are received in the techniques of operating the equipment or the methods used in obtaining the specified results unless difficult problems arise. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Operates vehicles, equipment, and/or single chassis vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of less than 26,000 pounds which are used in general construction, maintenance or grounds work, including snow removal and anti-icing operations. At the Presque Isle State Park complex this may include the following: John Deere dozer 450G, hi-lifts or front-end loaders with a bucket capacity of less than three cubic yards, John Deere tractor, backhoe loader, excavators, boat lifts, dump trucks, 14' stake bed, Bob Cat Tool Cat, Skid Steer, along with various other tractors, mowers, and heavy equipment. Some of these equipment items may be borrowed from other Parks, Forest Districts, or state agencies or commercially rented. Performs manual work when not operating trucks or equipment, including the loading and unloading of trucks. Work is assigned with instructions clearly outlining the scope of each project. However, little or no instructions are received in the techniques of operating the equipment or the methods used in obtaining the specified results unless difficult problems arise. Performs minor repairs and preventive maintenance work on equipment or assists Diesel Construction Equipment Mechanics and or Automotive Mechanics when making major repairs to equipment. Recommends equipment replacement and purchases. Cleans and services equipment. Performs general maintenance to all park facilities and structures. Examples may include but are not limited to assisting in building gates, repairing piers and docks, replacing picnic grills and picnic tables, replacing charcoal disposal units, and installing or replacing Park signs. Performs ground maintenance activities such as sand removal and/or placement, beach cleaning, brush hogging, leaf blowing, mowing, and snow removal. Digs trenches for the installation and/or repair of waterlines, sewer lines, and drain pipes. Digs foundations and/or footers for small construction projects. Loads and/or hauls soil, sand, stone, and debris. Helps with a variety of Park maintenance tasks when not operating equipment. Examples may include picking up litter, cleaning restrooms, painting, tree planting, plumbing, masonry, carpentry, and garbage collection. Helps with set up for special events on the Park and at the Tom Ridge Environmental Center. Completes safety checks and inspections of equipment and vehicles prior to operation and maintains records of operated equipment including vehicles. Demonstrates the operation of assigned equipment to other employees. Provides visitors with information about the Park and local area, reports observed violations to Park Rangers or Managers. The employee in this position may work alone or serve as a lead worker for a small crew of park maintenance workers and/or laborers. Performs other related work as required. |
