Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. This position performs skilled journey level work in a variety of the building, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, welding and masonry trades in the construction, maintenance and repair of park buildings, facilities and equipment. At the direction of a supervisor, contacts vendors and obtains price quotations, calculates cost of supplies and equipment, estimates man-hours required to complete assignments, prepares forms and submits them to the supervisor for review and approval. Acts a lead worker to Semi-Skilled Laborers, Laborers and other personnel during the completion of projects. CARPENTRY Utilizes hand and power tools to perform rough and finish general carpentry work in the maintenance, renovation and construction of park facilities. Interprets blueprints, sketches and diagrams. Repairs or installs floor coverings, doors, locks, screens, roofs, soffit, fascia, spouting, windows, decks, etc. Plans, designs and constructs wood projects, such as storage cabinets, shelving, etc. PLUMBING Performs repairs, renovations and new construction to the plumbing infrastructure at all facilities and support systems. Opens blocked drains, repairs leaky faucets, fountains, showers, urinals and toilets. Replaces hot water tanks, installs and repairs sewage and water lines. Pulls, repairs and reinstalls submersible water well pumps and lift station pumps. Drains pipes in preparation for winter. MASONRY Performs new and maintenance work in connection with buildings, bridges, foundations, walks and walls. Constructs forms for cement work; mixes cement and plaster; finishes cement using mason’s tools, pours footers, floors, walls and sign bases. Lays concrete blocks and stones for walls, fireplaces, etc. MECHANICAL Performs preventative maintenance and checklist type inspections to vehicles/equipment/tools to insure their safe operation. ELECTRICAL Performs electrical installation or repairs, such as to new construction fuses and circuit panels, pool power panels, cords and plugs, electrical boxes and accessories, wires, switches, outlets, floor/ceiling wiring, ceiling fixtures, outdoor lighting/wiring and underground service lines. Performs heating system maintenance/repairs. EQUIPMENT OPERATION Operates a variety of light and heavy equipment in a safe and responsible manner. Prepares and maintains automotive/equipment reports, work progress reports, daily maintenance logs, and oil and gas measurements. LANDSCAPING Repair, renovate and maintain turf areas, roads, trails, paths, walkways; fertilizing newly seeded as well as established turf areas; pruning of tree stock and hedges; planting/transplanting of landscape stock. Cuts grass using hand mowers or lawn tractors. May earn and maintain "Registered Pesticide Application Technician Category 23 - Park/School Pest Control" or more advanced training. If obtained, uses that training to apply herbicides for purposes such as controlling grass around posts and control of invasive exotic plant species, and apply pesticide to control Hemlock Wooly Adelgid. Removes snow from sidewalks, parking areas and roads. GENERAL Maintains a clean work environment. All tools must be cleaned and stored properly daily as well as the work site during any repair, renovation or construction. Tool inventories will be maintained and updated as per park procedures. Materials stored must be done so in accordance with manufacturers recommendations and protected from any unnecessary damage. Duties include cleaning park facilities, restrooms, pavilions, cabins, campsites, etc. according to Bureau and/or Park guidelines. Performs related work and other general maintenance duties as assigned by a supervisor, such as welding, repairing automotive equipment, plowing snow, cutting storm damaged or hazardous trees, assembling picnic tables, mowing grass, painting railings, bridges, and washhouses, etc. Performs other duties as required. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and practices used in at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades involved. Ability to care for and use the tools and equipment utilized in the trades involved. Ability to detect defects in equipment and to make proper repairs or adjustments. Ability to lead a small group of semi-skilled workers. Ability to interpret and work from pencil sketches and diagrams. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to operate and/or utilize basic lawn care and snow removal equipment. Ability to lift and move heavy objects and to work under adverse weather conditions. |

Requirements Profile: Identify any specific experience or requirements, such as a licensure, registration, or certification, which may be necessary to perform the functions of the position. Example: Experience using Java; Professional Engineer License Experience: MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Two years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman 1; or Four years of experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities.
